Road Trip

Mark and I took a trip north across the Skyway today in search of gold. I found a 10K 1969 class ring, a small 10K wedding band, a 14K wedding band, a 14K ring with four diamonds, a silver pendant with amber, two silver rings, and a bracelet that may be 9K gold but could be junk. Also dug 44 coins. Mark found a nice 18K wedding band. I was using the Excalibur II 10" and Mark the Excalibur 1000.

I can't speak for Mark but I almost always hunt in discriminate mode. I think there is more of an advantage to using all metal where the sand is mineralized. Here on the west coast of Florida we have zero iron minerals in the sand. I have used all metal when the conditions are calm and I'm hunting an area that produced before and there is still a chance of getting few deeper targets that were missed in the discriminate mode. I find it hard to hear the deeper targets in all metal unless the conditions are good. Like no wind or waves and a flat bottom.

Eight hours. I've hunted many days without finding any gold. Sometimes you hit it and sometimes you don't. Being in the right place at the right time is what's important.
