Went on a family trip to upstate NY this weekend to visit my wife's relatives. They have 46 acres to explore, so needless to say I was chomping at the bit to get out there, but wanted to make sure my hunt didn't overshadow catching up with family. Finally got out yesterday afternoon and found only some bullets, a key, and half a horseshoe. There was lots of territory to cover, so I battled time and ground as solid as concrete and they both won. Needless to say I was discouraged.
Then today, on a short hunt before packing up, I got a solid hit on their side yard, just a few feet from a corn field. I found the lady below 4-6 inches down. My 1st Large Cent and I was thrilled. Cleaned it carefully, but still can't make out an exact date (18_7). Peace and HH.

congrats on your first large cent.
looks like an 1837 from here.
hope it's the first of many for you.

The details on the obverse and the line under one cent on the reverse would put your cent between 1816 and 1839. It's a Coronet Cent. Congrats on your 1st large cent!!

Tri state soil tears these up... BUT still very good find:icon_thumright:

Thanks to all for the feedback. I was unsure whether the LC was the earlier liberty or the later one and your input has settled it. Happy to live on the East Coast to dig up the old ones.

Very nice find.:icon_thumleft:

Congrats on the LC.she's an oldie no doubt.............................................

You now live up to your moniker.

Sounds like you need to hunt that corn field after the crop is cut. ;)

Congrats,
