Rogers Side Hollowed

at first i thought they were San Jose, untill some one suggested Rogers Side Hollowed, and now they may be even with the San Patrices. The smaller one i recently got from a friend who found withing a few hundred yards of the larger one "got from his brother", both are identical, material , grinding, flaking etc, except the smaller one has the beveling. the rogers and patrice are more of texas, and these have been found in New Mexico.

I agree Targe, these are most def one of those catagories thats makes you , early Archaic, post Clovis.

Steve, you may be right, these may be Barreal, but more complete examples! One of my firends has another one, also beveled, but made of a cream white material, i would love to take it off his hands

Sometimes it's easier telling what something isn't, rather than what it is. It doesn't appear to be a Rogers Side Hollow to me. Rogers are the "Brazos fishtail", and one of the (attributed to) San Patty variants that actually occur up here. Rogers are very thin, often fluted, and have a smaller hafting area that has auricles rather than a stem. Yours have far too long of a hafting area for a Brazos / Rogers.

I'm not sure what yours is, but San Jose cluster is still pretty high on my list, from the pics anyways. As for Barreal, they are a small arrow point. Yours appear to be larger darts or knives.

Thanks for the input Mat, here is a shot for size comparrison. I should be ordering the Bell Perino books this next week, hopefully that will give me a better regional view / id of pieces from this area

Here's another one I would recommend Brandon. It's a bit "iffy" in places (Justice goes a bit wild with his clumping sometimes), but overall a great book that is an asset to any library. Abebooks is a great place where you can get bargain prices on books every now and then.
