Okay so you aren't going to believe this.

NOTE: This is true, I'm not kidding, and I didn't make this up. :o

I went back to that alley (fire lane) site where I dug the 1930 Model A Ford taillight yesterday and I get this nickel sound. I figured like cool--another Buff.

I'm using a full sized shovel since it's ruff ground about ready to be paved anyway.

I dig down and down and finally the signal is in the dirt. I sift it and this tiny silver round thing is laying there looking at me. What the heck! I pick it up and sure enough--a Roman coin! No way!

I turned it over to see if it was a button but nope--a coin.

I'm now thinking about how somebody must of lost it on the way to school for "show n tell."

I laugh and get another deep signal about 4 feet away. Up from the depths comes an ugly looking silver coin-like thing much thicker than the first one.

Then I remember that last year I dug a strange looking thin coin about 60 feet from where I was standing. I'll see if I can find it. It was very corroded so I just tossed it into one of my junk containers. I wonder?

No big deal I know but I've heard of people finding these in New York but never dreamed it would happen to me.

Collecting and cleaning ancient coins in America has been popular since the Victorian era.

You never know what that next dig will turn up ;D

I just added a photo of the coin I dug last year at this site (very bottom picture). I put it into the rock tumbler for several hours. There are markings on it. You can barely make out an X to the right.

Well heck. Everybody knows that the Romans tried to conquer Michigan years and years ago. I think it was Caeser Detroitus that led the army. They weren't very good at sewing pockets and lost a lot of change as a result.
