In have lived in Bulgaria for just over 8 months, but due to other commitments haven't been able to get out with my MD.
I met ivobg & victorbg a few days back & they showed me around where they hunt , thanks chaps...
nothing found on that day! just one coin would have made my day.:BangHead:
I was invited out by another local chap to a newly ploughed field that was part Roman /Thracian.
I found a few metal smelts from a kiln, so there was obvious coin / metalworking going on.
Also found a piece of black Thracian pot.
On my way home, I stopped in a ploughed field near my house as I had something nagging at me, within 10 minutes I found what I have been told is a Roman flint / fire striker....
I looked on Google images & it confirms thats what it is...:headbang:

cheers

nice piece of history! gz!

Thanks for the links.
The village where I am dates back well before the Romans, who were here 69 bc to about 350 ad.
It was found in a ploughed field about 2 miles outside of the village.

What would you say is the best preserver ? I was thinking olive oil or Vaseline & store in the dry & dark.

Do electrolysis on the piece, to stabilze it. Then, after drying well for two weeks, dip it in Conservator's Wax. Conservator's Wax Website for one of the providers of the wax, but there are others too.

Nice! Congrats!
