Roman Metal Working Site - Day 7 - Finished - 16th/17th C SILVER SPUR & BUCKLE!!!

It was a fairly normal day other than the strong cold wind. We were finishing off the Roman Metal Working Site finding 15 scrappies & bits..
The gridding took us just short of 4 hours, so we decided to do a scouting mission in the next field. It's a monster field & I wanted to check the bottom right corner, so I was off, at pace. Cru'dad left behind, crossed the track-way onto the new field & a few paces in got a large junk signal. After putting it in his pouch thinking it was a chrome plated Spur (we have never heard of solid silver ones!), he moved on a couple of paces & got the buckle. At this point, knowing the buckle was silver he GPSed it & then tried to catch me up.
Just less than 6 hours total hunt;

1817 Sixpence - I thought I had the best find

I can't find a match for the buckle & there are similar 16th C ones as well as 17th C, so I will await the verdict, although the above has lots of 'discussion points'.

'If' one of the ID's is correct with a date of 1610-1660, then this would make it English Civil War period!

I have never heard of a silver spur either. That is really cool. It looks similar in shape to some english riding spurs I have. Nice hunt Crusader.

Similar but as you say different in a number of areas. I have no idea of the age, but if they were 1729, they should not record it as treasure, so watch this space!

Incredible find! I could see the asymmetrical being solid silver, but the spur frame itself being solid is unheard of....

UPDATE;

Looks like I might of been way off with my guess of the date of the Spur, based on its buckle & their PAS ID below;

The official response from the experts are;

''It has been decided that they are probably C18th less than 300 years old and do not need to go through a Treasure Act process any further unless a Maker’s mark had been present indicating otherwise (which there is not)"

So, it's legally ours whether they are right or not. (I love it when they use words like probably, indicates its rarer enough for them not to know for sure....)
