Hi all! Winter had a rest this weekend and fields were thawed enough to dig. Still a muddy thing with partly frozen soil...
I worked near a year to get permission on this site and finally got the go from the farmer. His family owns the low land castle they live in since 200 years and the history of the castle goes back to 1244!!! Quite old even to european standards.
On his land is a roman villa i researched for about 6 months. Unfortunately this area is in the middle of the front line of 1944/45 and full of trash. I took the time to count the finds of fuze fragments, driving bands and bullets. 95 dug holes for brass trash+23 for bullets.
We did close to two hours on that field (2 man), with about 1 hole dug every 2 minutes. All we got was trash with 1(by me) roman find! But it's a cool and not an every day find. This pendant is worn a lot in the loop till it broke through and was lost and hidden for nearly 1800years.

I remember that one. The one i got here looked almost cast in the same mold like yours.

Lots more brass/lead scrap for ya Lu. Didn't you have another pendant a year or so ago? What is the silver thing with the numbers? Can't tell form the pic. but it looks like a band our ducks and geese get to track what area they are from/killed. Hope after you get the trash cleared off you get to the GOLD. Dosen't all the driving rings show it's not been hunted? Good luck!

That find was worth all the digging. Very cool!

Lots of flak and bullets but the rewards were great, congrats on the Roman pendent.

The Roman Empire was so cool, they had some funny things.

Nice finds. Very ancient site, lot's of promise. On the fertility pc., Try soaking it in Viagra and see if that helps. ;)

That would be considered vulgar to wear today, but it meant something different back in that era.

Hi Tim, had a stud mount (no pun intended) phallus before. You're talking about the Wolfhead Pendant? http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/today-s-finds/324319-roman-wulf-pin.html#post3052218
That silver looking tag is an ear tag of a cow or sheep. And yes, lots of trash let me think the site is not detected before. Difficult to park a car hidden and within eyeshot from the farm makes hope too.

Not the average jewelry today! I don't think the roman meaning was different. They just had another point of view.... :laughing7:

Excellent find. I went to England a couple of years ago and enjoyed my week immensely. Found a fibula broach (partial) and my first hammered silver. I even enjoyed digging the iron :)

Great find Mate  Like Rob said, not a common find either, even though the Romans were obsessed with the use of symbols of this type on artifacts.
