Hi All! New to this forum. Thanks in advance for your help.
I found the below in NC today. Is this a rough Emerald? The color seems to be excellent but I am new to this. Also can anyone make any recommendations on how to find a good lapidary if it is?
Thanks again! IMG_5560.JPG IMG_5564.JPG IMG_5559.JPG IMG_5563.JPG

That's a nice stone. I have been to NC numerous times to look for emeralds. It is not gem grade. You could have a cabochon cut from it, but that gets expensive. I'd just leave it as a specimen.

General appearance says possibly emerald. A gemologist familiar with rough stones should be able to confirm or reject the diagnosis.

Time for more coffee.

It's pretty big!

Looks to be at least 1/3 of a foot long :laughing7:

Neat! Tell us more info. Did you dig it? Find it in a creek? Nothing like that to be found around here. You're lucky to live in a spot with potential. Gary

I disagrees that you can tell from a picture. I too have been to nc for emeralds, and I actually found a very nice 2 carrot one i got cut. From the outside they can look poor like this from weathering or mining. There could easily be a few carrots of good stone in there.
