how many silver coins do you guess you have found in your crhing career?

Dimes?
40%ers?
90% halves?
Quarters?
other?

To be honest, I have no idea. I first heard about buying bags of coins from banks in late 2007. I have been buying loose halves from banks since the mid 70's off and on as finances would allow. Anyway my goal for 2008 was 365, and I found 265. My 2009 goal was 365 and I found 332. So my goal for 2010 was 365 and I found 612. This year my goal is 613. Also note that I search dime bags and quarter bags. Dimes are my favorite because they are consistant and not too hard to dump. Quarters are easy to search and are easy to dump, but don't produce very well. Right now my dump bank has put a hold on taking my dimes, so it is quarters and nickels right now. I did get a $100 bag of halves that produced 2 90's and 3 40's and I actually ordered a box of halves for the first time since 08 and of course it was a skunk.
I am sort of at the mercy of my dump bank. I know they don't like halves, so I don't push it. The head teller told me the slots they have set aside in the vault for dimes are full, so she asked me to wait until the end of the month to bring in any more. But she will take all the quarters I bring in and $100 in halves or nickels once in awhile is no big deal.

I started last December, so far i have culled 9 silver nickels, 128 silver dimes, 2 silver quarters, 226 40%'s halfs and 44 90% halfs, .....so 409 silver coins thus far.

This is a heck of question. Frankly, I have no idea. Dimes? I began putting them in glass cigar tubes. Filling them one after another. Filled the cigar box. Have continued with more glass cigar tubes; filled another box. Got tired of separating them so I just toss them in a jar. 90% halves - too many. I used to sell the 90%'ers (halves and quarters) to upgrade to .999 fine (Eagles, Maple Leafs, bars/rounds, etc.). I filled a safe with .999 fine (5'x3'x2') that was obtained by CRH'ing finds. I've been filling up the 2nd safe currently. 20 years ago, we didn't even keep 40%'ers. They were so plentiful and didn't carry a premium. It would tie up too much of the CRH'ing budget keeping the 40%'ers.

that seems like a load of silver! how much total do you have right now if you don't mind me asking

Hmm. Since I started about 2 years ago I have found:
these are estimates but probably close.

80 silver dimes.
10 silver quarters
5 war nickles( I don't really search nickels much anymore) not very many buffalos or v nickels either
About 400 40% halves
35-40 90% halves
20 ben franklins
15 or 16 walking liberty halves
a couple morgans.
maybe 10-15 indian head pennies.
just a few barbers along the way too

Roughly 570 silver coins total, and I do mostly small road trips, not many boxes.

that seems like a load of silver! how much total do you have right now if you don't mind me asking

I quit keeping track of what totals and value that I had some years ago. To make a rough guess, I'd say close to 600-700 pounds (not Troy). When it gets time to sell, then I'll be in for a surprise. I CRH not for the profit, but for the thrill of the hunt. Mind you, I've been at this game for a long time. Like I said, when I started, 40%'ers were tossed back with the dumps as you couldn't sell them and they would tie up too much of the budget. Kind of like saving NIFC coins today. Times have surely changed.

Wow.. I actually remember this. In approx. 1994 I was just a kid working in retail. I remember there was a guy who would come in every once in awhile and buy a pack cigarettes with 4 - 40%. I have saved them all these years. I probably got close to a full roll just from this one person. Thanks for bringing back those memories.. Wow, times sure have changed

1202 wheats (including a four hundred something wheat bag)
675 canadian cents
1 indian (no date)

4143 pre-60 nickels
141 war nickels
349 canadian nickels
28 buffalo nickels
3 liberty head nickels
1 shield nickel

57 silver dimes (including 1 merc and 1 silver canadian)

1 silver quarter, plus 1 silver canadian

45 40% halves
10 90% halves

I mostly do nickels and cents.
