Round brass thing the size of a half dollar

Found in park on hillside. It's brass and tapered.The top is 1 3/8 and bottom 1 1/4 and 1/4 in. thick. No markings and no threads so not for plumbing.
It has a grove like an ash tray has to hold cigarettes but not that deep.I don't see any marks that would indicate that this was hacksawed and appears to be cast in one piece.

Oh WELL DONE! I knew it was a ferrule, but it isn't tall enough for most tools.
