so I recently had a encounter with another TNet member at a local CU, I could tell he was a hunter because I saw him buying other rolls of cents from where I was standing, I get the urge every time to say something and just chat, but I feel people tend to be private when at a bank, so I keep quite. When I went to the other open teller and asked for what I normally do.. any halves or big dollars, up chimes this kid... "He's looking for silver" this isn't the first time its happened, but come on? mind your own when at a bank, more then that you don't tell everyone you talk to about the value of what we are looking for, I can almost chalk that bank up to a dumping location now...

And to really rub it in, the same kid checked out the COINSTAR before I got to and found a rosi!!!! damn you lol..

Anyway, just alil rant about keeping your head down in this game

Interesting. He was a TNET member, too?
at least he was looking for pennies and you were looking for silver! :laughing7:

WHY WOULD SOMEONE DO THAT? People need to mind their own business. If a teller asks if I find silver, I say, sometimes I get luck and find one. I have had another customer ask but it was a quite conversation between the two of us. Why would someone say it out loud. I know who you are talking about, I've read the comments. I'm guess that person dumps at that bank because they to are a hunter. People out there want to ruin it for other people, no matter what it is. The coin star on the other hand is a free for all....first to look finds the coins.

Yes he's a member here.. i posted on his log.. i had a feeling i knew who he was when he said something in line, and sure enough he posted that night about the rosi.. i just don't understand for one why.u put out other peoples business, and second, sense when do we tell anyone about CRHing???

he was picking up their.. i think he learned after he first joined about the whole pickup/dump bank thing... but yea, the coin star was a first come first serve, depending on the store i will either check on my way in, or way out, this place is a way out check, should of been a way in check lol, i havent done any real hunting in like a month, i would of loved to find that dime lol

Twas me Im afraid. I apologize greatly but to ease the mood here, I work at that walmart and visit the women that work there almost every day. They enjoy my company and sometimes I will even take my break just chatting it up about coins, work and what have you. I took you for a noob and I have wanted to meet you for some time now, and I believe it was a bad experience and again I apologize. If anything such as halves (which they dont take anymore because it costs them money to ship out they said) or large dollar coins were to be there, they would tell me instantly and Id have gathered it up regardless. Also, I was picking up cents because that is all they could afford to give out for the day. They always are generous and give as much coin as they can since I kinda grew on them being a member there for over 2 years now... And about the Rosie, in the coinstar, it was a 1950 no mint and I also check that several times a day. My sincerest apologies regardless, and it was nice to have unknowingly ran into you finally. Now please lets not beat me up too much here. 0____0

I remember the "very rude teller" thread and I'll say it again. We offer very good advice here. It's in your and our best interest to heed it. That way everyone can enjoy the hobby and continue to enjoy it.

The TNET gurus know the ins and outs of this hobby very well... I've gone back and read TONS of old threads just to learn from experiences they've had and advice given. For a group so reluctant to let the hobby out of the bag, they seem very welcoming to noobs. Until someone ruins the party of course.

no biggie, and i was more upset about the "hes looking for silver" in general you do not speculate about what people are doing in the bank.. i too was looking forward to meeting another hunter, because i knew u hunted the area, but good practice, especially when dealing with peoples finances is to mind your P's and Q's, nothing personal, but when im talking to a teller, i dont really want to talk to anyone else, in line waiting, or on my way out il chat it up all day, but at that window its private, thats why they have you wait back a few feet when waiting your turn.. i get you being friendly with them but i bet even with that relationship i bet they would say something to you if you were all over another customer, look forward to seeing you around again, and maybe next time il get to the coinstar before you!

stole the words from my mouth.

starkizzle - I think you have found a nice dump bank. give him plenty of coin to go through! Maybe help educate the tellers on what to look for in the halves and large dollar coins. bring in some silver halves (since he already told them about silver) show them and tell them you will even buy them from the tellers if they find some! A lesson needs to be taught here.

Rookie mistake and a big one. Actually borders on rude and spiteful...nope full on spiteful now that i think of it.

Good job of keeping your cool. I would have put him in his place on the spot:thumbsup:

First rule of coins roll hunting....there is no coin roll hunting

I usually don't post here often because of how I feel regarding the OPSEC of this hobby. That being said, this is something that really bothers me. You make an effort to be apart of a community, don't take anyones advise, and then make a conscious effort to ruin someone else's ability to hunt. And yes, it was a conscious effort to reveal and compromise his hobby to the bank. Just because you've been unable to get much coin at that branch, does not give you the right to make things difficult for another CHR brother. I, like many others here, are very familiar with how you CRH and I am surprised they still give you cents. You may very well have ruined *your* ability to pickup other coin at that branch but that does not mean he has.

I can tell you, if someone had done what you did, to me, I would be furious. You constantly try to portray yourself as a funny guy but nothing about what you did was funny. There is never a need to target someone like that in order to be "funny". If I were you, I'd be doing whatever it takes to rectify this issue rather than trying to make excuses for your poor decisions. Unfortunately the damage is probably already been done and my advice will most likely fall on deaf ears.

with no coin counter this place may be somewhere to dump small amounts of rerolls I pick up.. one of the best pieces of advice ive gotten here on TNet is to befriend the tellers, especially the ones who help out other hunters, and make yourself their new favorite customer.. always a option, now that the jig is up it might just be a place I happen to check if im passing thru, their are plenty of other banks around. I don't see much point in teaching a lesson that's been beating to death on this site already, I tend to put a lot of faith in people from my neck of the woods but some people just have to do stuff their own way and learn lessons the hard way.

I have gotten that line before "we don't take halves... for this and that reason..." but in this hobby, their are many variables.. so a lil old lady with a couple silver dollars may end up with one of those tellers, even tho she just turned away a guy like me with 100 $ + rolled halves.. so asking is always a must, you NEVER know, and like what has been said many times here, be their friend.. they may be turning someone else away for what ever reason, but may have no problem selling to me.. I don't like to feel like I use my boy to get anything, but ive noticed that when I hunt with my son, the tellers are way more friendly, even if they don't have any, or wont sell them to me the hole process is friendlier when im the dad with the cute baby vs. the weird dude looking for change haha..

but before anyone says something I take the lil guy in all the banks with me because I wont leave him in the car, you never know how long you may be waiting in the bank, ive waited 15+ minutes for them to unlock a vault... not to mention just being stuck in a line!

This post hit home today. One of my source banks couldn't get my normal delivery on Wednesday so I had to pick it up today. I walk in and there at the next window over is a CRH who is not only talking about looking for the 1970 and earlier ones to the teller as he is trying to exchange his dump box for cash. I overhear him say that he just picked this box up a couple hours earlier and he was back dumping it in the same branch he picked it up from.:BangHead:

All you can do is smile and go on with your transaction.

The other day, I ran into an older woman searching half dollars in her car. WITH HER WINDOWS WIDE OPENED. I actually parked next to her and wouldn't have realized that she was CRH'ing if she had her windows up, but she was making so much noise with the coins. I didn't say anything, just went into the bank and did my business.
