I think I remember mentioning at one point that I had a dump where some dang fool had plowed over everything... I keep going back nevertheless, just to see what was deep enough to avoid the carnage. I came away w/ very little-, but this-- this is what I was talking about-- Hutches- everywhere- and every one of these has a problem- a lip chip, a terminal crack... tens and tens of bottoms, side panels, lips- and these rotten lousy teases- which looks good until you get them all the way out of the ground...:sadsmiley:

Thanks for looking! Yakker

Sorry such promising looking bottles were all busted in some. We had a spot that had such promise this Summer but it got dozed over too soon for us to be able to look.

I bet that there is a whole one hiding in there somewhere! Just keep hunting it. Good luck.

Like GaRebel said, keep trying. I would be TORMENTED to see so many hutches broken, but some had to have survived.

Welcome to my world...shattered dreams and hurt feelings.... until that one day comes and you'll find the pocket.

Thinking about the bottles with just the tops gone, anybody ever cut them and make drinking glasses? seems like with the right equipment you could still salvage some coolness.... :dontknow:

Its a lot of work for little reward and given that the glass is older, it may not handle the temperature fluctuation well and it may crack.

I've always thought it would be cool, but it might be easier just to make candle holders.

I saw some broken straight sided soda sawed off and had tea light candles in them. Looked pretty good.

Thanks for being my pep-squad, folks! I have, in fact, found a couple whole. Measly compared to the brokes, but I think maybe 4-5 so far.

But you know I'll never give up on this place. First time I approached it (the dump), I found a merc dime in a washed out area. A good sign! Yakker

If that is all your finding. It no dought was where the bottling Co dumped. I have run across that several times with soda bottles and milk bottles. And the companies liked to break the competitors bottles.

It's a possibility, Bottles10, but it's right at the edge of town, and apparently there was a house there once as well. I don't think it was a sole-purpose dump. But good thinking- and I'll check it just in case. On a different topic, but almost the same, there was a button factory nearby- so small indusrty was not uncommon. This is a pic of just one conch shell (one of MANY) w/ button 'punch-outs'.

0306141435a.webp But- to get back to the topic, the bottles are from Philadelphia, Camden, N.J., and my current home town-- along w/ some blanks. You may be right. I'll keep it in mind next time I go. Thanks for the feed-back! HH! Yakker
