I cant for the life of me understand why states that boarder any ocean/sea don't invest in a salinenization plant to utilize the oceans waters for domestic use. If the drought is that bad, build it AND THEY WILL COME!

You mean 'desalinization plant'? Indeed, that would make sense.

Or, maybe there is too much petroleum to be filtered out to be safe for human use...sad on all fronts.

It takes a tremendous amount of energy to run a large desalination plant so the water would cost a lot. The main water supply for the Island of Nantucket is a desalination plant and it is pretty large for a fairly small water supply.

Too bad they can't run it off of an ocean powered electric plant. Make use of what they have there.

Yes Jarl I sit corrected! I forgot the de in da word!:) with all the engineers we have in this Country they could or should have already had something going towards a Desalineazation plant years ago. why let the little amount of fresh water we have continue to dump into the sea??

Near me and under construction is the Carlsbad Desalination Project; a 50-million gallon a day seawater desalination plant that will supply the San Diego region with approximately 7 percent of its drinking water needs. The project will be the first large scale desalination plant on the West Coast and the largest of its kind in the Western Hemisphere.
Don.
