At 1 o'clock: 1.5 hrs in s metro Denver via my Bazooka Prospector.

At 4 o'clock: sampling for 20-30 min with the Bazooka in North Clear Creek downstream from Blackhawk CO

At 7 o'clock: 1 bucket of 8 mesh- material from Russell Gulch above Blackhawk (federal mining claim)

At 10 o'clock: 1 bucket of 8 mesh- material from Trail Creek at the Phoenix Mine ( a great underground lode mine to tour)

At 11 o'clock: couple specks from a sample pan on a dry creek bed running into Lake Dillon (private property)

...I've had a busy last week!

Kevin, looks to me like you might just as well set up a camp in Metro Denver. That will of course limit your skinny dipping, well maybe just depends..............................63bkpkr

What do you know about the U.N. Agenda 21? This is what is happening in CA right now and in many other places in the U.S. but I just don't see people getting excited about it, that is Screaming and Yelling Mad about it and voting to stop it!

The full deal with Agenda 21 is a World Government. This will include major living centers with NO or NONE allowed outside of the center. They will control all food production, all water, all Utilities, travel if there is any and the people will be allowed to work and stay in the city ONLY! No freedoms, no personal property, everybody will supposedly be the same does that sound like a place you'd want to live in with your children or a place you'd want to know your grandchildren would be living in? Old poeple, what health care! Orwell's 1984 only a few years late!..63

63 its not just california that is getting reamed by agenda 21, its the entire U.S.A. and most wont even know what just hit them in the back of their heads after its completely implimented!

63..well you're right about the great gold here in town, I was out today to get some more after work :D

As to Agenda 21, I just don't believe, sorry. The UN has no power at all.

Kevin I hope your are right!

The meeting in Auburn, sponsored by the DefendRuralAmerica.com, seemed to indicate otherwise. Herb

Kevin,
Those are some great samples. Metro Denver looks awesome. I'm jealous :)

Metro Denver looks better than most of rural Alaska!:icon_thumright:

Well, not so sure about that...those pieces are mostly -50 (some -20 to +50 range but nothing above that)! My biggest flake from in town is a hair over 1/8 inch across so I'm still looking for the big flakes :D

Meanwhile, the littler stuff does add up!!

Part of my lesson learned is to get out prospecting around, I definitely have been surprised at the productivity of some humble, little known creeks!!!

Kevin,

Is the federal mining claim at Russell Gulch easy to find? Open to the public? I tried a Google search, but didn't find much info.

Thanks.

I don't think you understand. It is a mining claim owned by an acquaintance. It is not open to the public any more than any other mining claim. Sorry.

Anyway, the gold there pretty much sucks on the surface, the claim owner is a hard rock miner. Lots of places in metro Denver that are better! since you are in Arvada I would suggest Ralston Creek or Clear Creek...just stay out of Wheatridge from I-70 east due to their city ordinances. You can almost walk to good gold from your home I bet!

I miss Colorado :/ I didn't prospect any of the times I've been out there but I sure love the drive to blackhawk and golden will always have a special place in my heart :) one of these days ill be back!

Im headed to colorado Wednesday!!!! Im sooo stoked. 7 days to prospect and fly fish!! Ive never seen the rockies! Anyway im getting off the plane at 930 and hopping in my rental car. I want to be panning some colorado dirt by noon!! Would gold strike park be a good starting point or should i go to the canyon?? Im doing 3 days friday saturday and sunday at Cache, but i havnt been prospecting around here for 3 weeks and am Dying to get a pan wet. Ill have sniping tools with me so im trying to find a little bedrock or clear creek. Any suggestions?? Kevin lol ur the denver guy!! Hook a brother up!

Kevin,

Yes, I was confused. Thanks for the info. I started prospecting last summer, and had a great time. I spent all my time in Clear Creek and had some luck, but with the heavy flow in the creek so far this summer, I think I will head over to the south Platte soon. Haven't been there, so I will start looking for some decent spots.

...and all that time you were driving right past areas open to casual prospecting with good gold!

I know I don't know how many times I was at the park by coors or on the dive to black hawk lol. Sad sad

Great to hear you are headed our way...hope you have a great time!

Clear creek is still very high from spring runoff so be careful of the current...there are still accessible spots in Clear Creek Canyon and that's a great place to start your adventure...it's within an hour drive of the airport and open to casual prospecting :-) All the popular areas on Clear Creek in town are pretty unsafe right now due to the high fast water and I don't want you to waste vacation time wandering around looking for a spot where you can get to good material so head up the canyon a ways above Golden.

There are not a lot of sniping opps as most of Clear Creek is 40+ foot deep gravel! Look near waters edge for deposits of promising material dropped by the peak flood waters.

To your question, you could also try gold strike park on Ralston Creek in Arvada. I haven't been there in a couple years though and I heard the city tore up that chunk of creek to redo the park ...and there's really no gold there anymore :(

Other options:
1. In the city you can hit the South Platte River...most of the parks in town have some gold. This includes spots right near I-70 I expect...you could do some prep work looking at google earth to find a nice bed or bar and most likely do well.
2. The town of Fairplay sells a $5 annual pass at their town hall ( on your way from Denver to Cache Creek) to dig in "the beach" they own along the middle fork of the south Platte. Dig where others left their holes (and maybe fill them in after!) to find decent gold. Do be careful of the rally deep holes some people leave that are NOT safe!
3. The BLM site with the Cache Creek info also tells about a public area on the Arkansas River where they allow pans and sluices. Fine gold but plentiful and per prospectors to chat up most times.

Beyond that, ask the prospectors you meet for more local tips as you travel. Thanks for coming to CO on vacation, every visiting prospector helps make the point that embracing prospecting is good for our economy so be sure to mention to locals that you are here for the prospecting!

S Platte is a smart move right now. Try Grant Frontier Park at Evans Ave in sw Denver or any place you can get to a cobble bar right now. A quick scan on google earth will highlight easy spots to access. Remember, no gasoline motors in town and no digging where it's dry...and remember the public is watching so represent us well ;)

Thanks for the info kevin! Im not used to the idea that you can just pick almost any gravel bar and find gold! Im going to poke around golden and start out that way. I heard near the coors plant is decent and open. Im also going to be picking brains. Lots of em. I have plenty of time there! Im hoping for a gram for the week.

First, a gram for the week is VERY do-able. In my hot spots in town (no, I won't post all my secrets here) I get more than a tenth gram per hour and you can too!

Second, the Coors land is private (obviously) and we are NOT WELCOME there. However just upstream on the City of Golden's property or downstream on Jefferson County land you are good to go and there is decent gold downstream from the Coors land toward the freeway overpass. The water is really high in this area right now so if it looks scary, you are right and should go up stream a ways where the water was even higher but has come down some thus exposing prospect-able areas in the canyon.

As long as the gravel bar you pick in town has lots of rocks bigger than your fist, the gold is highly likely...gotta love Denver! Sometimes even true sand bars are decent too but that is more chancy.

How in the heck did we get from Kevin showing his prospecting results to somebody railing about a one-world government? Lets not hijack Kevin's thread, please.
By the way, Kevin...nice results...hope you find a bunch more.
