here are some pics of the scoop I use with measuremet so you can make one. make the handle length whatever you prefer.

Looks like a fine dry sand scoop where the sand will sift thru the holes quickly. I have one nearly like this for dry sand.

Water scoops need to be larger and stronger. I like the Sunspot scoop, though there are some other nice ones out there.
