Nice strap crusader!

Re: Sat & Sun Finds...

Nice strapend Cru :icon_thumleft:, and good luck with the dogtags . I might be going out tomorrow, weather permitting, although the fields are still a bit wet :laughing7:.

Re: Sat & Sun Finds...

I bet you could walk through that field and pick buttons off the corn :laughing7:

Like the strapend :icon_thumleft:

Re: Sat & Sun Finds...

Is that a roman or saxon stop-cock valve handle in the 4th picture :tongue3:

Re: Sat & Sun Finds...

Hi, in the first picture of this post, in the third row down of buttons, there is one button different than the others. It has a straight shank in the middle in stead of holes. Do you know very much about that particular button? I live in central Florida and have found an item that looks just like the one you have. It is heavy, probably close to an ounce is one inch across. Was identified by another detectorist as a curtain weight, but I still think it may have been a very old button. Does the one you have match any of the description I have related. Thanks.

Very interesting finds guys! :icon_thumright:
This is interesting, any idea what it's from? :icon_scratch:

Cheers,
Dave

Don't those curtain weights ring sweet !
Congrats on Another Great Assortment of Finds
I'm not familiar with Saxon items, and was going to ask what a 'Strap End' was,
well, I did my own research and discovered they are ornamental pieces for the end of a strap ::) ,or belt.
I found a similar one on the British Museum site, This one had 2 'quadropeds'
as its zoomorphic, and was made in Kent, 500 ad.
can you see what animals are on yours? quadropeds I'd imagine, as most animals have 4 legs :laughing7:
Again, great finds, very interesting Saxon in particular,
Not to mention a fine asst of buckles & buttons

Re: Sat & Sun Finds...

Thanks for the info.

Re: Sat & Sun Finds...

Looks like the farmer used " shoddy " as fertilizer - it was full of buttons. but it shows that there are some "goodies" to be found with patience. well done!! Hutch.

Re: Sat & Sun Finds...

Thanks for pointing this out, when thinking of animals, AKA 'zoomorphic', serpents
didn't cross my mind. Awesome find
