2 more unusual finds. Looks like I'm gonna have to buy a case just for the unusual finds from my artifact field.

Awesome finds there RiverRat!! There are a few people on TNET who will be able to ID some of those. Congrats!!

nice finds! looks like that one was a very long drill. check your finds for bases that might fit. dunnu bout the other.my only guess would be a knapping tool if that is usage wear I see on the end.

Do you have a "macro" setting on your camera? If you do try setting that piece on a non reflective surface and see if you can get some nice close ups of it. It could be a Cone, but I can't say for sure from the pics you have now. Does it feel heavy for it's size? It looks like it might be Hematite and it would feel heavy if it is. The only other thing it could be is a polishing stone for metal parts and they are a pretty common find believe it or not. I see them on sites and at shows all the time and people think they are artifacts.

I've found drills...never with serrated edges and more thicker than this. Also, the flint used is not Louisiana.

Ahh.. thought that was just pressure flaking to form the drill and the last one broke it so it was never used to wear them down

that is some beautiful stuff
i like the colors
that drill is very cool.......you sure must have a good spot

My camera is "broke", it takes pics but I can't load them...every pic has been taken with IPhone. That cone shaped thing, the end is broken. Whatever material it is made from, (I've found other odd pieces) is does "bleed" red when cleaned with a soft toothbrush also wipes red on paper towels.

Learn something new here everyday. I searched the www on ochre...now I'm gonna have to dig through all my finds to find the rest of the stuff. Most is in shape of a rock, pictured above was probably used since it's in a worn, smooth cone pattern.

NICE!!! I LOVE WHEN THAT HAPPENS. Its like finding new artifacts in your own home.

Wow that's an awesome drill! Congrats and HH

Like a small pestel. Keep your eyes open for a small ... bowl. "Mortor"

Very Nicely worked drill point! Too bad the top is missing. Looks like you have some nice points there also. I would suggest going back to the general area that you found the drill point and screen the area, or at least mark the area for future hunting. Congratulations Super Find!

Since you say the cone piece is broken it could be a piece of a Plummet.

This field has been plowed using disk, turning plow, harrows. Just couldn't tell you how many times since Dec '11. I find stuff after each working, never no big stuff. This field was farmed in the 1800's up til about 1940. Trees had come back up and this was cleared out by my husband & his father in the mid 60's (at the time purchased). From that time on, it was a cow pasture. But when it was being farmed, that was a log landing at the river and the road to the landing went on the edge of the field. So, the majority of artifacts were picked up. My husband can remember 3 burlap sacks full of artifacts that was in the house. In the transition of the purchase & moving in, those sacks disappeared. He don't know if the original owner had taken them or if they were stolen. I do find iron chain links & stuff but only on the landing side of the field.

If that log landing is water as I presume I would bet if you sifted there you would be in the big stuff again.
