Well you have already heard from Mirage and his son about the trek through the snow. It might not have been as bad as far as climbing if we had stuck to the switchbacks that the original road took through these ridges, but to save time we went vertical both directions. I badly need to drop 20 lbs or so and get back in shape as these climbs were killers. At one point we stopped to take water and I noticed that Nate wasn't even breathing hard...man to be young again!
I am pretty sure we located the right ruins, but to be honest the 2" of snow covering made it difficulty to see details so once we got there we all split up and wandered around the area where the two buildings were (Stagecoach stop and tavern) I gotta say it was a beautiful scene with the snow covered pines, the rocky gorges and the convergence of the three streams all taking place right where the stop was.
I didn't find much, but after cleaning my pics I did have two cool old pcs of pottery with one having a date of 1835 on it. Also found a small hatcht head (not as cool as Nate's broadaxe. Oh yeah...Nate was gonna leave that sucker there until Bob offered to hike it out. At one point on the steep climb out I thought Bob might jettison that thing.
All I found at the camp meeting ground after we left were some wheats. A 1917 and 1919 were the oldest.
Here's Nate on the climb down the ravine. You can see the creek. The ruins were just to the right.

Nate holding a pc of a wrought iron rail??

Mirage built a fire. Good thing too...my gloves were soaked. We stood around and warmed up over coffee and sandwiches

My finds (including a flag pole top) uncleaned

coolest finds cleaned

Closeupof old pottery w/date

HH all!
