Saturdays "up north" finds
Let me start by saying that after viewing some of the recent Stellar finds on the board, I was a little hesitant to even post my meager lot. But what the hey....congrats to all you awesome treasure hunters...and heres my spin.....
The first multi day weekend Ive had in too long found me headed to Northern Mi to repair some "heavy snow" damage sustained by my cabin. Fortunately, I was able to wrap up the repair as well as the yard work on Friday, which left me Saturday to do a little ground fishin. I headed out to an old lumber camp site where a buddy of mine had scored two "Town Specific" store tokens earlier this year. Unfortunately, this site is quite swampy and was currently under the control of a blood thirsty mob of black flies that apparently eats deet for breakfast. I lasted about a half an hour before retreating to my vehicle......arms flailing ...yelling obscentities at these mindless creatures. Although I lost the battle, I was pleased to have gotten away with a little booty in the form of a King George dime and a nice brass encased, tortoise shell youth comb.

After licking my wounds and re-energizing myself with a BK steak egg and cheese bagle....oh yeah...I headed for what I like to call "The Leach Pit".....northern Mi version of the shark pit. This is a shallow water area that has a seemingly endless supply of targets and if you hunt bare legged, you are sure to be pickin a few blood-suckers out from between your toes at hunts end. I hunted this area for a couple of hours , and although I didnt find any real oldies (Oldest coin from this spot is an 1854 half dime), I did leave with a mess of pre-1964 coins including ...ten wheats and three silver rosies. I also dug a copper baseball charm , a small "Sterling" ring, and a small amount of junk. I could have dug all day here, however, the majority of the targets here are 10+ inches into the silty sand......digging one target and filling the resulting crater in the lake bed is alot of work.....I hunt this spot in moderation.
Anyway ...heres some more pics of the finds. Note the pennies come out of the lake bed looking like theyve been sand blasted.

As usual, the best of luck to all...hope you enjoyed the post...and congrats again to so many on such great finds this year....Joe

We don't have those black flies here. Will the fly infestation last all year or will they be replaced by no-see-ums or some other nasty creature.
The comb and case are my favorite > I would investigates it's value
