Scabbard hanger?

[TerryEastTexas]

Is this a hanger that went to a sword scabbard? If so is it period? Thanks for any information.

Thanks Creskol. I've been looking and saw where a company called Weaver leather supply sells them today made of stainless steel. They call them gag swivels.
