Its been at least a week and a half since I've gotten out so needless to say I was happy to get a quick hunt in at a local schoolyard today after work. I've searched this playground a few times but today I hunted a small area I hadn't hit before. I was there about an hour before 5 or 6 kids came and wanted to play football, and this being a playground, I gave the kids the right of way. I'll have to get back there soon because I found a few keepers. 2 religious medals (1 silver and 1 copper or brass), 1 religious cross (silver), 1 junk earring, 4 wheat pennies (1949, 1941, 1946, 194?). Clad finds were 1 quarter, 2 dimes, 4 nickels, 8 memorial pennies. I also found a broken arrow. Both of the silver items are marked Sterling. Can anyone translate what it says on the cross?

The cross is a othodox one, the text on the back is in Russian. It reads "спаси и сохрани" - "save and protect" . The insciption on the front reads "и.н.ц.и.", the Russian translation of the Latin "IESVS NAZARENVS REX IVDAORVM " (=I.N.R.I. Jesus from Nazareth, king of the jews) ) on catholic crosses. The Russian "и" ("i") is written as in Latin which is quite interesting. It could hint to an Ukrainian backround, since in Ukrainian the letter "I" is written this way.
Intersting find!

HH,
Nat
Thanks for the response Natman. I've found a few religious items in the past but never one with a baseball player on it until now. Definately a cool find. Congratulations on finding one also. HH Evo
