little video of todays short hunt

hey guys, yes the title is correct, I actually hit a public park today, those who know me know my dislike of all places public and the bazillion trash signals that go with them, but I only had about an hr and a half to hunt because I had a birthday party to go to today. Anyhow, I found this nice little park close to home and started swingin. Not a lot of trashy signals and right away I got on to some clad, then bang, a 44 wheat?, 20140727_133555.webp I thought "nah, just a fluke", but about 10 feet away got a sweet mid 80s tone on the atpro and figured itd be a clad quarter, but after digging in the super rock hard, drier than ever river dirt I was surprised at the 46 roosie staring back at me! that's silver #40 on the year! 20140727_133547.webponly 10 more to go til my goal of 50! A few feet later I managed a 36 buff,20140727_133542.webp I thought to myself "how the heck did I stumble upon such a good public place" all I manage usually at parks is junk and clad, this is my new plan B site when all else fails, I only hit a small shade covered spot today in an hour, and yes I will be going back!! thanks for looking and HH!!20140727_133506.webpjunk.webp

Congrats Cjon. I'm glad you didn't start hanging upside-down on the swing set and rolling around on the ground like a Wildman like Ringy and King George do. :tongue3: Thanks for the video.

Enough of the beach and parks..........when are you and Dave going in search of another old property? I miss the adventures. :laughing7:

Nice finds! You guy's are all on fire!

Nice digs !!! I've been down a couple weeks with a herniated disk and haven't been able to swing anything. I've been living through everyones finds on Tnet and you and old dude been tearing it up lately, along with a lot of other folks. I'm used to going out every day and finding at least "something" of interest. (jerked my trolling motor battery out of the boat and POP, what the heck.) Trying to figure out an MD mounting system for a walker....LOL.

man that's one thing I fear, getting an injury that would prevent me from detecting, bummer!!
I feel your pain brother, don't worry youll get back out there!

Thanks MM!
I think a OldDude/Cjon version 4.0 is in the works, as soon as our work schedules coincide

yes, don't rush me lol

Congrats! Nice saves!

Don't think of them as "public parks", too limiting. Think of them as former fields, pastures, lawns, indian paths, stagecoach roads that somebody turned into a park. ;)

I noticed how you had an overwhelming sense of guilt in calling the dime a Merc when it wasn't. Isn't it interesting how we ABSOLUTELY must correct ourselves on every faux paux? It's understandable though, for if you let it stand the ones who enforce that line of thinking would SURELY have called you on the carpet and had you publicly flogged to reinforce their own self worth! I can hear it now,"YOU FOOL! Don't you know the diff between a Merc and Roosie!!!??" ;) LOL

the former version of the public park isn't my problem, its the 14 inches of CRAP (junk) that's on top of all the old goods

And yes, someone would've called me out if I didn't correct myself lol
You mean the ole, "WHADIFIND" syndrome? ;)

OMG absolutely!!!

The park that I call the Mercury Spill park was one of the trashiest ( surface ) parks in the area. The last 2 times I went, it was clean as could be. I even made a point of talking to the new caretaker and commending him. I had found 3 silvers in the previous 2 hunts when it was trashy, but found none at all after it was cleaned up. Weird, huh?

Maybe, just maybe, the lessons are getting around. That detectorists are ACTUALLY finding the pull tabs and are ACTUALLY taking them out rather than just tossing them aside? Maybe that's why the park's a little cleaner? :icon_scratch:

Not at all. The trash I was talking about was plastic water, soda and other drink bottles, paper and other trash discarded by uncaring people that live around there. I live in another town and drive there just to spend an average of 30 minutes every time picking up trash before I even attempted to detect. There are still lots of pull tab signals there that I have passed over, lol. Someday I am going to go back and dig up that gold ring.

But, doesn't everybody pick up any trash they see while they're out hunting? I do. ;)

The caretaker told me this park's problem are the older teens that hang out. He has had to call the police a few times lately, but said young mothers and babysitters are starting to come back to the park with the kids. That was good to hear.
I caught him trying to find my plugs as he'd drive by on his tractor, lol. After he saw I wasn't blowing smoke when I told him he didn't have to worry about me filling my holes, he came by, shut the tractor off and asked me a few questions about my finds and md'ing. He even gave me a suggestion as to a potential spot in the same town. It was nice to see a municipal worker caring about his job and doing it well.

Awesome! Detail on the dime is fantastic! The buff is getting to be a rare find congrats!
