Im stumped on these...im pretty sure the first one is a scraper...second one not so sure. If these are both natural that will be a good learning experience too lol. Let me know! Thank you! 20170602_160915.jpg20170602_160923.jpg20170602_160929.jpg20170602_160935.jpg20170602_160939.jpg20170602_160945.jpg20170602_161008.jpg20170602_161014.jpg20170602_161030.jpg20170602_161037.jpg20170602_161050.jpg

thing about my area is that the erie indians werent here too long...they got their asses kicked by the iroquois and absorbed but didnt stick around after that. So i think id be lucky to find a whole point from them. Mostly what i find is older brokes.

The last pic shows an edge. The 1st pic I believe is a reduction piece.

Reduction piece is like peeling a apple. You take the outer section off to get to the good piece. Its the outer section of the stone. Some used the whole thing some had to keep removing the layers till they could find the better section of the rock. Yours doesnt show any cortex so Im guessing its from under the cortex but doesnt look used just tossed.

Thanks man!

Don't count your area short, keep your head down and put boots on the ground and you will find them.:icon_thumleft:

I will!

The first stone, while similar to large percussion flaking, is not likely even though is similar. There does not appear to be any of the shock wave ripples, which is often found on the large spurs from shaping. Both sides look to have an uneven surface. The first two image are what I am referring too.

There does not appear to be any secondary flaking, or pressure flaking on the second stone, so while the shape is similar to a thumb scraper style, it is not. You do not show the underside though.

It virtually impossible to get a 100% accurate assessment from a photo.

On the plus side, if your finding flint, even large flakes from plow strikes there is likely to be worked flint in the area. Don't overlook the hard stone or slate.
