Well the ground now is starting to thaw...was able to dig about four inches down.... Decided the first full hunt would be with the Se... The dfx stayed home today.... I wanted to try to remember some of the tones and readings from the air tests I had run... It was a three hour hunt...around $3 in clad...usually with dfx the clad amounts for three hours are usually double that....but right near end of hunt....the Se began its attack got a strong 3/28 reading....which sounded like the silver I air tested...but so did a quarter earlier which was not... :D

But as I dug in the rock gravel..there it was down around 2-3 inches....my first silver of year! :blob8: A 43-d Merc...after 3 hours of tough hunting...I finally had a smile on my face....and headed to the car... Around $3 in clad, a Merc, and two game room tokens...and a little confidence built.... :)

WTG Greg! I had my first hunt of the year today also but alas no silver just three wheats. :)

I will take that any day too! :) I hit the tot lot first had two cents the first half hour...than hit three quarters around a tire swing.... Still a different style of hunting for me...slower and slower for target separation but that is fine...

hey Gregg - that's cool you found silver your first full hunt with the SE - great job !!!!

so give us some impressions - how do you like it so far ?

Well to be honest...I like it... I am surprised at how well it holds a nice smooth threshold in areas the dfx does not! I like the noise cancel feature... I need to keep getting out...May add a little more disc. till I get used to all the signals...With pinpointing I was either dead on or way off...I think the dfx has an edge with pinpointing but its hard to give a full review when I really am still clueless :tard:... I used digital...and the tones for someone using tone id with the dfx...and the digital readings should be able to pick it up pretty quick....I think the response is a little slower than the dfx.... But they are two different monsters...

nice finds gregg ! love the merc  i have found out with my se in the ground here that when i find a coin thats off from what i thought was center of the hole that the coin i found was on its edge in the plug, which makes me think the best signal would be offset of the center of the coin and was picking up the flat of the coin, just something i have been thinking over :) congrats on the silver

Gregg,

You don't think your DFX would have found the Merc at 2-3"? ???

Keep the passion high!

Keep it up Greg and soon you will be a pro with that SE!

I intentionally hunted an area today where the dfx could not handle the emi.... The se did have some trouble with the trash...but no trouble with the emi! So I would have to say...the dfx would have most likely missed this signal... Also with one of the short test hunts a few weeks ago...I took the Se to an area by an electrical poll where the dfx actually shut off once...no problem with the se...the noise cancel feature is really nice...

Gregg have you tried using high-trash mode on the dfx. I got a dime at 10 inches in a trashy park. I know about the noise you get by the power lines with dfx. If you keep hunting the same parks all the time i can see why your not finding much silver.Got worked over years ago or parks not that old. Good luck.

Congrats on the Merc Gregg, Silver sure sounds sweet on the SE dont it, Quarters sound like a Silver ring and come in top right on the smart screen the same you've to dig them :D

Gregg...there's plenty more silver to come. Just wait till you start popping out some from around 8" ::)
I think you will have a great year.

Glad to see you struck silver with your new SE! It's just the beginning!
Hang in there....it will all start to click, and you'll be digging deeper coinage. It's just a matter of time. The more hours you put in with your machine, the better you're going to get with it!

Don't rely too much on the smartscreen #'s or target ID. Tone is the key to digging the deepies. If the tone is true, go for it!!

Congrats,

Gregg, turn your sensitivity down. You should get the signals then! It works for me!

Good point on working mainly the same parks...but the one I hit the most with the dfx was the one the Se struck silver in first try! I have tried all modes with dfx...I find the smaller eclipse coil works the best for me...had the Se and Dfx out today...(Thursday)...will drop a post sometime soon...

Really the silver rings sound like the quarter..well that is the first sound I learned...the wheat cent sound still confusing me a little...

Thanks Dan...odd I am already getting used to the sounds...today(Thursday) they did not bother me at all.... Oh and as far as putting hours in...working midnights always gives me that opportunity.... Also I just purchased the 1800 rechargable battery pack...like the idea it can last a long time...with two battery packs for the se and two for the dfx...humm...should be an interesting summer... :icon_sunny:

I turn it down into the 60's on the dfx and that sometimes helps....the se has a noise channel feature that does it automatically...

Spoken like a TRUE Analog User. :)

Gregg, Nice work! Force yourself to keep getting to know the SE. Don't even bring the DFX along. It'll be a temptation. (That's my experience, anyways.)
