There's supposed to be a test to tell if lead was mined before the nukes were being tested. All I can remember was if the lead was mined & smelted before the nuclear tests it commanded a much higher price and a few of the bigger recyclers could do the test. This is from my old as dirt under caffeinated memory. If anyone else can elaborate please chip in & fill in the facts for me please.

You folks just don't get it. Earlier people were ragging Gary. It probably went more like this. We're a production Company looking for a metal detector person to participate..... Sound familiar? The producers picked him out of a pile of auditions because he fit the part - he was a real character that people would like. Whoops we've got to give him some creds or a cool title
! I'm not saying he's not an expert, he just fit the part. I'd bet good money the lead cross was located (either found or bought) weeks before. The producers sat on it till they could come up with a story line, scripted it and made arrangements for the trip. You're getting all wrapped up in a story for cable! It's not a documentary. It's a scripted show for cable & to make money along with looking cool in some producers resume. The "team" have at the very least made their mark so that & the money is good. Without the funding from the sponsors the shows would be nothing but fluff period and we'd all be *****ing about it!

Thanks for confirming everything we have been stating. The show is a mockumentary, totally scripted, based on the long running hoax story. No item (oak platforms, 90 foot stone, flood tunnels, etc) in the story has ever been found and documented to be authentic. An island that has hosted humans for thousands of years will have junk left behind (metal, kitchen ware, human remains, nails, jewelry, etc.). The story tellers who believe in the hoax try to tie in everything found as proof of the hoax. Story tales are spun about Templars and when that is disproven, they then jump to Shakespeare, Sir Francis, Bacon, Aztecs, Mayans, aliens, fill in the blank, etc., theories.

It’s ironic that Dan Blankenship spent his entire adult life looking for something that never existed. With that said, after he acknowledged to himself that nothing was ever there, he was successful in building further hype about the island and then cashed in with the tv show.

That's just it. I have fun on this forum but haven't seen the show much in the last three years. This month Dish has BBC America on "free-view" and I like that.

The documentaries (Planet Earth, Blue Planet II, etc.) are pretty well based in natural science and the narrator (Davd Attenborough - the best) supports it instead of interrupting with stupid questions just before a commercial break to wait five minutes to see what they are holding. Why even bother asking a TV audience a question? It's not like an answer is possible.

No question Oak Island exists. It's on the charts and maps. The rest . . . maybe not so much.

The above rhetoric is on par with the show’s rhetoric. No factual evidence has ever been presented proving that anything involving a treasure or anything else of significance has ever existed there. It seems like the longer the story tale goes with nothing being found the more the myriad of fairy tales grows...

That's right, Charlie. I know I can depend on BBC-produced documentaries because the producers aren't writing for a lowest common denominator target audience. Nor are they trying to please advertisers selling toilet cleaner, cars, or perfume. The only recent documentary produced for American TV that wasn't trash was the rather excellent COSMOS series.

Assuming that Season 5 lasts until the end of February (similar to last year), there are most likely only 6 episodes remaining. Per reports, the crew was still there with heavy equipment and later divers until November of last year. Will they try and squeeze all that into the next 6 episodes, or will all of this be part of Season 6? I just have a bad feeling that they'll stretch the next caisson drilling another 4 or 5 episodes and end with a cliffhanger, to be continued next season. All this fluff is a huge waste of time to potentially milk another season.

I really hope not. This season has been pretty poor so far.

The only things they have done is: 1. pattern drilling finding nothing of significance (treasure related). 2. Drilling large hole finding nothing of significance (treasure related)... That has taken them 11 episodes (16 episodes this season).

I really cannot think what else they can do even to fill the next 5 episodes never alone another season. They seemed to have proved the only thing buried in the money pit area is the remnants of previous searchers of the money pit area...

The kicker to the money pit area is no one knows for sure where it is at now. Couple years ago after some of their first drilling adventures they asked ole man Blankenship where it "thought" it was compared to where they were standing and he says over this way some. It's a guess at best after Dunfield left.. UNLESS amongest Fred Nolans survey maps he has the cordinates to it from points that still exist... and I'd think that he would but we'll have to wait and see if the brothers ever ask/see that...

Also.. Nolan was on the island surveying for one of the searchers before the Restall's came on to the scene. So he predates Blankenship by a few years as far as history on the island. Blankenship came in within Dunfield's time. Dunfields big mistake was excavating on the wrong side of the Chappel shaft. Had he excavated in the present location of H8, as large as his excavation was , he would have solved the mistery. Nolan would not let Dunfield/Blankenship cross his property with the heavy equipment to get to the money pit area. Dunfield built the coast road for that purpose and in concequence made the swamp as we know it today ... If Nolan had been on the island since the early 60's, why did he just discover the cross in 1980 ?

I wonder how many people have paid to travel to the search sites, then drop something or leave something for them to find. Just to throw everyone off track.

If a block and tackle was found over the depression then the treasure would be less than 10 feet deep. The boys or the landowner dug up and recovered the treasure. Why are they still digging with all of this massive equipment for what was buried with a block and tackle? Makes no sense but they are the people that are making the green or either throwing green away?

I've always wondered why they lost interest in that pesky swamp. Are there some REAL finds and they're sitting on them until the scripts run out?

All of their "other" finds in the swamp turned out to be nothing.....why do you think anything will change?
