Detector(s) used
Bounty Hunter Pioneer 505
Bounty Hunter Pioneer 101 (Tracker 4)
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
The ring pinged as a quarter, about 4" down.

I have a question for everyone. I am using a BH pioneer 505. I am finding stuff, but besides pennies, no old coins. Is it the area, the detector, or they just hard to find. I have found a couple per 64 nickels and that's it. I know this may seem weird to you all, me complaining, but I want to find some serious things worth high value, so I can show the wife I am not wasting my time. Would a newer detector really help, if so, which one? Are the duel frequency machines, that much better? Would they justify the cost?
I know a lot of questions, I just want to know I am not missing stuff.

I would recommend the ace 250 for coin hunting. I just got it last year and this is my first year detecting. I find coins like crazy just found 135 today+ a silver ring. I find a lot of old coins too. It cost 212.00 and is worth every penny. If you don't want a new detector I would look into buying a garrett propointer. They cost around 130.00 and I would not detect without it. If your spots are no good do some research look at old town maps talk to old timers read old books ect. Google earth is also one of my most helpful tools for locating spots.

Well I have been dete ring for about 9 years and what I have learned is this... A mid range detector does help provide better finds quicker. You are prolly talki around 3 to 5 hundred for a decent one. My a pinion anyway. However I also believe that in do time you will began to find those better and older coins. It's all about getting fermi liar with your detector. I bought a bounty hunter when I started. It's a pretty low range detector. I started out finding pretty much nothing. In time however I realized I was picki up wheat pennies silver dimes and etc. I noticed that most detectors I have had seem to give off a more faint quicker noise when detecting a coin beneath the surface. Maybe you just have to get use to catching those really faint noises. Best of luck to you either way. Hope ya don't give up. It's a great hobby and it will eventually pay off. Thanks for e post. Great ring, that's an awesome start.
