Sharing detector NH & FL. Which model recommended for both types of hunting?

My father-in-law and I would like to split the cost of a new detector and I being in NH would use it May-Oct and ship it for use in FL Nov-Apr. I hunt colonial sites dating back to 1751 in iron laden fields and in untouched woods. For use in FL we are looking for a submersible detector with super beach combing capabilities.
The two detectors we have narrowed it down to are the Explorer and Excalibur II. If neither of these fits our requirements or if another make/model is recommended please advise.

Thanks

Explorer is not submersible (control box) so would be risky to use in the water, and the excal design and weight might not be your cup of tea for extended land use. If it was just on the beach sand, or wet sand at low tide, explorer II would be a good choice.

Why not just look for good used ones of both kinds.....The majority of the good jewelry finds are in the water, but the chances of ruining an Explorer are high if you get in the water with it. Excal is a good land detector, weight problem can be eliminated with a harness, but it is not an Explorer......

Yeah used explorers can be had pretty cheap.

This is like trying to only use one golf club to finish two different courses. What suits you for relics and such up north will not be the best for the beaches or wet environment. The Minelab Sov Gt would do you well up north and do well on the beaches so long as you didn't take it in the water. The Excal is the water version and would be quite heavy for land work and doesn't have all the features of the Sov GT.
