We went out this morning to a small beach that I am not fond of. I found a butterfly charm as soon as I walked onto the beach but it is a cheapo and you can see where the ring where the chain goes through is broken. Then I found a dime not two feet away. Boy, this is going to be a good day I thought! I walked into the water. The tide was out and one of the things I don't like about this beach is when the tide is out by the time you get hip deep in water you have seaweed up to your knees. YUK! I hate that stuff. Plus the fact that it gets wrapped around my coil and the sand and muck is so soft that I sink down into it. Double YUK! I found one dime out there and a Tonka truck. Yep, I said a Tonka truck. I had to dig for it too! That is the first toy that I've found IN the water and had to dig for. Then I met a lady that was walking into the water wearing chest wadders. Why she was wearing them beats me. She wasn't fishing, wasn't MD'ing... I don't know why. Anyway she asked me if I found anything or saw anything out in the water. I told her I hadn't found much yet but I had pretty much just started. She said did you hear about the gator they just killed there? I said no..... She said that they just killed a 12 ft - 600 lb gator in the water there. GREAT ... I decided to hunt on dry sand for a while. Did she scare me? Darn right she did except for the reasons I've already talked about I don't like hunting in the water there anyway! So my finds today were a Tonka truck, a butterfly charm, a couple earrings, a battery plus some extra junk and a total clad count of (don't faint) 96 cents. Whoopee!

But my daughter, although she didn't find much, found another ring. It is a pretty one and I'm jealous but... it is not a real one. It is an AVON ring. Still ......she beat my bu** AGAIN.

Hi Mumszie!

Nice thing about California...we don't have 'gators here. Just a little shaking and rocking once in a while.

Not that I'm much of a waster detector. I go maybe ankle deep and all of a sudden it's waist deep and so the wet sand is good enough..during the low tides.

The junk jewelery is fun to find nonetheless. it's kinda like the cherries on the slot machine. Not a big payoff but keeps our interest while we wait for the JACKPOTS.

Fresh or salt water? I know a few places close to me where the water is mixed and there are some huge gators.

I guess it is mixed but "thought" it was salt since it is on the gulf.

I hate the seaweed too, and then to find out their might be gators to boot.........yuck
If its an avon ring its probably still silver

mumbles

mums

u just have a slight case of the mumbles like i do, soon we both will snap out of it

mumblemums and her gators......................watch out for those jobs.

good luck on your next spin

:)

Mmmmmm a lady in chest waders. Maybe the beach your not fond of she doesn't want you come back! Just a thought there.

A dead Gator can't hurt ya Mumszie :laughing7: He's dead now, probably wasn't the last time you hunted there.... I had the biggest Manatee swim past me on Monday, probably 10' and 2-3000 pounds. At least they don't bite.

I had a manatee surface right next to me last year. Now THAT was a scary moment until I realized what it was and I was only hip deep in water that time too! The water can be a scary place and I bet a lot of MD'ers have some scary stories to tell! LOL

I'll bet that would make for good conversation. Twice this year I've had sharks swimming within 20' of me. They don't bother ya. :help: I hate it when the crabs grab your feet, freaks me out...
