SHERRYs THREAD - My Gold Prospecting Journey

P70 - Speaking of drilling a well... I was thinking about getting an auger to drill down to sample areas along the river. I'd sample and place the material in a zip lock bag with the location noted on the river and go pan each one out. Or I could pan as I go... What do you think about that option? See the attached link. Check out the videos too.

I always have good intentions like that, but inevitably I find gold. GOLD! Dig here! lol
I'd probably do a lot better if I sampled, but on the Platte you can pretty much hit gold anywhere you put a shovel in the river.

So to celebrate my Birthday coming up on the 19th, my 2 girlfriends and I got all dressed up and went to a Fall Out Boy and Paramore concert Saturday night. Well I will tell you this for sure, after getting blisters ALL over my feet from those dang high heeled shoes, I threw them in the trash. I will trade women's dress shoes for flip flops or river sandals any day, any where, any time, any how!!!

No wonder you get asked out when you're at the creek !!

Happy Birthday

True story... Last Friday I had the privilege of getting to dig alongside of one of the legends of our river. Since I was a female and all alone I asked if I could dig somewhere in his vicinity sense he was digging near where I usually did. He agreed. We had good conversation every now and then throughout the day and at the end of the day when we were leaving he said to me... "Ya know, we need more women on the river like you because it is nice to see someone that is interested in actually LEARNING how to prospect on their own and not ASKING where a good spot is. Oh yea AND WITH ALL OF THEIR TEETH!" I busted out laughing! Then said, "And I have every single one of them!

Well Rob in KS, I don't look like that at the river.... No make up, undone hair, as frumpy as possible so people leave me alone but apparently teeth are important. ;-)

feefs... rofl.

Nice story and some great pics.
Where is the gold? :D

Oh yea... I was laughing too much to remember to comment on the gold and post the pic.

It was a real sad day... I didn't find any gold the first 3/4 of my day but, then I moved to a separate spot and ran two tubs of 1/4 classified material and got a little bit. Much of it was mercury covered though. Oh and I found a 1975 dime. LOL!!!

I think some of the grey stuff I find maybe LEAD and not Mercury covered gold. I understand that mercury can be burned off or retorted but I'm not going to do this myself. However, my question is...

Is there a way of testing for lead so I can desperate it?

SATURDAY, AUG 9th.

I was prospecting with a friend "Drywallman" and we were taking turns testing spots and running them through my Bazooka Super Mini. Well I had just ran the material from my test spot and the clean out was a bust. So, I decided that I would scoop back up my tailings and rerun them while readjusting my Bazooka to run more level. So, I let Drywallman pan the cons, we didn't get any gold in the rerun but we were surprised to find an interesting BONUS! It appears to be a diamond that had fallen out of a ring or pendant settings. I went online and found testing instructions to determine if it is a real diamond vs. a CZ and it seems to be real based on that but I plan to take it to a jeweler to check. Whether real or not, maybe in a couple years I'll have a jeweler melt down my gold and handcraft a pendant for myself. ;-)

Sherry was the legend Bernie? I hope you get to meet the man. What he doesn't know about the EFSG aint worth mentioning.

WOW, gold, diamonds AND all your teeth....what a gal :laughing7:
Hope the diamond is real.

Rod, no it was not Bernie, I've never met him. Hear say is that he was banned from the EF when he was arrested years ago and has not been back.

I prefer not to name the person due to confidentiality reasons and the nature of the comment as it could hurt any of their friends feelings if they fell into that category, I hope you understand. ;-)

Haha! I was looking at your pic closely and wondering if I've got some merc. covered gold in my junk metal bucket... :)

Great updates, love this thread Sherry!

Merc covered gold is usually bright shiny silver colored and lead will be gray and some times have white highlights due to oxidization.

Great stuff Sherry...and

HAPPY BIRTHDAY.....

Definitely looks like some pieces of lead and some mercury covered gold. From the picture its hard to tell but the big piece looks like the latter:thumbsup:

Oh and Happy Birthday!:occasion15:
