One of those days to remember.
Last night I had a overwhelming feeling that today was going to be a good one & I found it hard to get off to sleep.

After nearly 6 hours of gridding the best find was Cru'Dad's Hammered Halfgroat, although it's a good find in better than average condition, I just knew this was not the good find I was waiting for.
It wasn't until we started OTWBTTC that Cru'dad had his 2nd hammered, I'm still thinking this is not it. (Although 2 hammered off here is a good day) Finally my turn, a 1866 Sixpence, so a 3 silver day, getting better. Then, in the middle of no-one & way outside of the Roman area I hit a Roman Silver. (Details below) Now we're talking; 3 silvers in 10 minutes all OTWBTTC! You couldn't make it up.

1 Nice Tombac Button
10 bits of early Saxon Pot - most in 1 day (I remember Time-team looking for 30 years for just 1 bit)
Neolithic Flint
14 Roman Bronze Coins (Mostly Scrappy)
1866 Sixpence (Better than my brought example in my collection)
Hammered Edward IV? York Penny
Hammered Commonwealth Halfgroat 1649-60
Silver Ant. of Volusian AD251-53 (I've only had 1 bronze of him & this is my first silver):headbang:

Really sweet finds.... Congrats

Silver was in the stars for you guys.
Congrats

Congratualtions on the killer finds! :occasion14:

I know the Roman hoard is not too far ;). Four of the roman coins look pretty nice. Not scrappy at all! My opinion is that the bigger coins, bronze or silver, are more damaged than the smaller coins. Can't explain why!
Congrats buddy :occasion14:

Looks like Time Team didn't know where to look.... Congrats on your Antonian! Love Crudad's Halfgroat. Beautiful coin!

Congrats on the silvers, a good day of hunting.

Those are sure beautiful silver coins! That is a great feeling, knowing your going to find something good! Cheers to more great finds!

Beauty of a day Cru. That’s a very big Roman silver bruddah! Now when you b-lined it for the car...had you searched that particular area before? I’m with Vince...Roman hoard off the starboard bow! (Bosun’s whistle in the background) lol

4 silver day is awesome, especially when one is 1700 + years old, crazy congrats!

It's amazing how much older history you guys in England have than us over here in the states! Those are some really awesome finds!! Those 4 silvers are superb.

It wasn't so much as a b-line as a snake.

Its a dead area outside of the main site. It has no indications of settlement & is outside of a large curving boundary. We have passed throw it a few times with zero results (other than a couple of buttons).

I did a small grid around it with no result.

This is going to seem odd but there has been a couple of occasions where I have felt guided.(Which I always pay attention to) As it happens this was not one of them but I did have a strong feeling that I would have a good day. (More than my normal usual optimism) Although I didn't feel guided, its hard not to feel blessed when you get an event like that which makes no sense at all. I believe in leaving nothing to chance, & although I think myself lucky, I never let luck guide me, that is why this 'lucky event' is so meaningful. 6 hrs gridding, 2 acres covered in the best area=1 silver; 10 minutes towards the car in a bad area, zero acres covered=3 silver.

PS. We had no silver from this land last outing.

Excellent silver coin scores. Love the fancy Tombac button too. Great day you had for sure.
