The 1st 2 digs was another expansion of pit 4 . When I started the expansion of pit 4 I thought I was expanding out into the hut. It turns out the pit was 12' long North to South and 5' West to East. I didn't find much but the discovery of the size of it was pretty exciting. Afterwards I went and picked up Momma's ring and laid it out with my days finds. Her mom saw it 1st , needless to say there was a lot of screaming and tears going on from both of them. I know it wasn't very creative but I'm a relic hunter , what do expect .

The 2nd dig was a expansion of pit 3. This turned out to be interesting as well and more productive. Pit 3 I had always assumed was much shallower. The ash line was between 16&24" but had loose dirt under it with not much under the ash line. When I dug pit 3 we hadn't had much ran in a month and the ground was almost impenetrable . Yesterday I was able to get deeper quite easily and hit another ash line at 3 1/2'. That lead me to dig under my original dig and eventually just reopen it. The most interesting finds for me were the Goodyear comb and the Enfield nipple protector. Previously I found a Enfield oil can , I just want to know where all my Enfield bullets are....

I switched up this day and did some surface hunting in a different area and got a few keepers.

After taking a break last time out and doing some surface hunting I decided to go back to pit 1. My focus was the North East corner where I had dug the bottom half of a Sachem bitters bottle. I started out on the east side and only got small broken glass. Then I went to the North side and got more of the same until I got to day 2's dig. If you remember day 1 & 2's digs were small holes that I was just reaching down into. Needless to say I ended up reopening day 2's dig and found another layer of ash below 4'. Aa usual the ash is where the relics were. The insulator through me at 1st but then I thought maybe they busted the top off to use it as a candle stick holder. I guess will never know for sure. Thanks for looking.

After figuring out pit 4 was 12' long I started thinking my line of attack was off a little. So I started removing all the iron in my new pattern to the North East instead of due North. I was actually finding some targets under the iron including a really nice Eagle I. Then I got a deep signal and dug down to the top of it at 33". I thought it was another frying pan and started finding porcelain buttons as I cleared dirt from around it. To my surprise it turned out to be a 24 lb. solid cannon ball. To be honest artillery never really excited me until I dug this bad boy up. I was talking to myself and singing the rest of the dig. I can't wait to get back and really open this hole.

Mom's digs!mom 1.jpgmom ih.jpgmom out.jpgmom.jpg

I had a old business associate who asked me about metal detecting. He lives in great area and is well known in the community. I did a little research and gave him a list of property's that might have campsites on them and he knew 2 out 3. He got us permission and I packed up my detectors and headed his way. I let him use my V3I as it is the easiest for beginners, and I used my CTX with the LARGE search coil. It took us about a hour and a half to zero in on the campsite on 200 acres. He dug 11 bullets, 1 J hook, and a pocket watch key in about four hours, and I got the shoulder scale and about 30 relics the 1st day. He's a business owner with 6 store locations and hasn't had time to go back, and honestly I don't know if his heart/ back is in it. Lol. I on the other hand have been back twice and have free rain to do as I please ; )! This didn't happen over night. The whole process took about 4 months, but well worth the wait.

Goes to show how research and net working go hand in hand. Amazing hunt one you will not forget for a long time. Well done.

***I had to edit my post to add " Freaking amazing" love seeing your Mom out there. Tell her she is now an internet star!! You killed it this season.

Any info on that little steel looking bead in the middle there? I dug one and didn't think much of it, but seeing this one here made my heart skip a beat!! Beautiful finds all around too though! :notworthy:

I'm not really sure on that 1. Thanks

Wow! I am stunned by how much you dug, you probably have more bullets than my stack of zinc pennies from this year!

Thanks. I've dug my share of zinc pennies. I spend them and keep the copper ones.

I really don't know much at all about CW relics but, do those bullets have any $ value to them? If so how much for each.
