Hi all, not sure how to post this, but my partner and I give talks about
metal detecting to local groups of all kinds. We have given talks over
a period of several years now. This year we have given talks to a couple
of museums in the area and historical groups. We also have given talks
to churches, VFW'S, Libraries and so on. Just about anyone who needs
a speaker has called us. We enjoy giving the talks and usually find some
neat places to hunt.

The pictures I am attaching are from last week. We were asked to give a
talk about local finds at a new school site. They are going to build a sculpture
about items found in the area from the past.

My partner and I are shown along with the students for the class
in the pictures along with finds we found at the
school site. We had no idea the students would show so much interest in
the items we found on the very site that the school now sits on. The site
once housed 35 homes and they were torn down to make room for there
new High School. Several students from other classes came in to see our
display and hear our talk. At this site our club members dug 100's for bottles
and found over a thousand coins. Bill, who is pictures with me, found a Civil
War sword belt buckle. We still hunt the site and it is still giving up
great finds.

Hope you enjoy the pictures, we enjoyed showing and telling the class all
about the local history of the town they live in.

Happy Hunting all, Ringfinder

Brilliant to see people out and a about giving the hobby a good name.
It's also great to see there is that much interest in the general community.
Sounds like you get 'repaid' in new hunting sites?

Keep up the good work,
Salvager

Thanks for getting kids interested in this hobby. I used to get mad when I saw other people metal detecting thinking that they were finding what should only be for me to find, but as I get older I think having friends in the same hobby keeps you going out more often and keeps the kids from getting into trouble. Now if you can just get the new ones to cover their holes and take their trash with them.

Old scout camps have some WONDERFUL stuff. I was just talking to a gentleman last week and he hunts one and has gotten a LOT of silver. The camp dates back to about 1910-his coinage dates back much farther......I know I plan on hitting one sometime weather allowing!

That is really cool and great to get out and show the kids the historical and otherwise finds. Bet they had many questions. I found a great number of rare and beautiful shells SCUBA while in Hawaii. About once a year I go to the school where my mother teaches and share them along with stories about it. The students love it. I occasionally also come there and tell the students about my experiences from many places around the world during my time in the military. They definately love that as well.

Very admirable,

How many years have you been detecting that area? Looks like a lot of nice finds, congratulations! Also, that's really great that you talk about the hobby and show your finds. You and your partner are definitely a credit to this hobby.

Thanks for all the replies. Our club the Black Swamp Metal Detecting
Club has been hunting this school site for over 2 years now. This site
was the first area of our town that was developed back in the early
1800's. So it has some really neat items to find. My partner found
a Brown Coke bottle, very, very rare.

We always try to instill the detector's creed, to ask for permission and
to fill all holes correctly and to always take out the trash you dig.

Although we are trying to get younger people to join in our hobby, a
member of our local historical society just bought a detector and can't
wait to start hunting. He is 84 years young.

Well HH, Ringfinder

Excellent bit of PR work wish alot more of the clubs around the US did it not only does it promote the hobby but gives people a better idea of what we stand for not a bunch of yahoos running around digging holes and destroying the neighborhood and countryside. As well it leads to more of us being able to get into places that weren't available to us before

It's great to see kids interested. Everytime a kid or a group of kids go by when I'm out, I always get asked if I've found anything. Happened just yesterday.

When this article came out, my parents sent it to me as it was in the town they lived. The article was excellent, and it is nice to see more updates on it. Great finds and happy hunting
