Detector(s) used
White's 6000 Di/Pro, E-Trac
i was showing some work friends how my detector works. i have an old whites 6000 dipro. people always get a kick out of the "ill tell you what kind of coin is in your hand trick" anyways the guys were eating lunch on the grass in this old industrial area. i had tried detecting here before but there is tons and tons of trash here. anyways i wanted to get one good target right where they were sitting (just to show the process of finding a coin) and i was explaining the basics of how the detector works and so on and people usually get a kick out of it. so i hit on a decent reading and took a plug, and to my amazement here is what i found! i couldnt beleive it. it was about 2.5" deep.

Holy smokes !! You talk about good timing. I am sure you are a hero now. Good stuff.

Wonder how many of them ran out and bought a detector!! ;D Congrats on the nice find! Melnatcat

lol yeah its a 1937....sorry the pic is poor. i tried to stress to the guys how very unlikely that was! im definitely gonna give the area some more swingin.

looks like its working good to me . Ivan

Congratulations on a nice find. I did almost the same thing, showing a buddy how it worked. I was in his yard and got a signal about 4 inches deep. Out popped a wheat.

Nice find! So how many of those friends are now hooked and wanting their own detector?

HH

I had a similar experience last summer. I was showing a friend who had just purchased an ACE 150 how to use a metal detector and within a minute dug a 1903 Indian on his property . We have both been back over his property with our detectors since and have not found even a Memorial cent!!

Funny how things happen!

WTG!

was setting up my detecter with fresh batteries and went out the back door and chucked down a mem cent to check that it was working right --it beeped very strongly for a cent --tried it over and over 3 or 4 times again same thing -- so picked it up thinking my detectoprs on the blink -- I waved it once more & still got a signal -- 8 in of digging later -- I got a 50 year old brass water nozzle ;) Ivan

You are now like a magician to them..lol Having lunch with friends in a field (free).....Seeing their faces when the merc came outta the ground (Priceless). I am sure they will want you to reproduce that trick every day at lunch now..lol

WOW!! If that doesn't plant the hunting bug in them, nothing will!!

Too funny, I had a friend that was interested in MDing, but never did it before. He borrowed a White's 5900 di/pro sl from a co-worker, I turned it on, balanced it, swung it back and forth a couple times showing him the ins and outs and got a good signal. I made him dig and sure enough, out popped a barber dime (1914) and a V-nickel! (1905)

now thats great timeing ! gotta love that ;D congrats

Now that's how to show off a machine. I was showing mine off to a lady this morning and all I found while showing her was a pull tab and some shredded aluminium. She was still quite impressed.

this is what makes the hobby so much fun. you just never know. im glad you all could relate to my story and get a kick out of it too. the one guy was really impressed, he said he never saw a dime like that before. he was really appreciative, i think just to see it.

well i tried again for a while at the site, and its just loaded with the worst kind of junk. the kind of junk that reads "quarter" and "half" and it turns out to be old debris. a few memorials and one old 1918 wheat was all else i could find. so it was just a stroke of luck. i still might have to try again......you never know! ;)
