There is no such thing as "reality" tv anymore. Shows need ratings to stay on the air and the only way for that to happen is to add drama, as in "planting" items on American Diggers or Diggers on Nat Geo. You can't tell me that everything that happens on Duck Dynasty actually happens every day.... added drama. I've never seen American Diggers but the guys on Diggers on Nat Geo act awful goofy when they find something. I don't remember ever rolling on the ground because I found a good coin or ring. Added drama! The best way to hurt shows ratings is to just turn it off and don't watch. And yes, it can give the hobby a bad look. Happy Hunting, everyone.

So I see Ric Savage and his troupe of clowns got harassed by Chicago PD. That...that gave me so much hope for MD'ings future. (/sarcasm.) I regret flipping the channel to it!

I really hope this show doesn't make it another season. I went to Spikes Facebook page and posted my grievance about this farce of a show...I would encourage others to do the same.

Diggers (National Geographic Channel), on the other hand, portrays the hobby in a much better light. Still has a tinge of being staged but at least gives the hobby some respect.

@ OP. Show now called savage diggers. And was renewed a year. I am totally with you. Does community a disservice. And...worse. If you try to go door to door now...and some home owner has watched that show...I think the chances of a yes are getting lower.

Worst...is not only is the stuff planted. But. He also only offers 80/20. I thought it was supposed to be more like a 50/50?

Spike TV has gone down hill. What happened to 1001 ways to die. Talk about a funny show about people gettin it in funny ways [forgive me if it is still on, but I believe its been yanked].

So instead of savage diggers...I watch home made youtube vids. Some of the best. Everyone has a different format and MO. lol.

I might write spike too. But, as some one mentioned, they won't care. They are selling commercials because of this idiot. lol.

What everyone needs to do is stop watching so the ratings will go down then they will be dropped. My local dealer tells me since the diggers started detectors are selling like hot cakes. Too bad the shows don't show proper digging and the reality of metal detecting.

It would be like you coming home from a great hunt and finding the best items you have ever found and then showing them to your neighbor and he goes in and tells his wife that you are lying and must have purchased them at a antique dealer. No one likes to be called a liar, so unless you have hard core proof, then the findings could be real one really never knows. I have no proof one way or the other so I will not comment on if they are fake or real finds. If they were filming live, then all of those watching the show would be bored to tears after watching hours of finding nothing. I guess you think the same thing of the cop type of shows as well, that those bad guys are just actors and were just playing a role and the crime never happened and it was only to get a TV show. I know something a wise man once told me "Haters will hate".

Peeking around the corner to see if the scuffle is over..... My two cents worth... This show gives metal detectorists a horrible name! Last night was the first time we watched and I was absolutely disgusted at the blatant lack of respect for property given by Rick Savage and his " crew." I would never in a million years ever give anyone permission to hunt on even farmland if they dug such obnoxious holes. Loved the statue dug on the grounds of the Newport,RI mansion BUT REALLY?!!! it took all that bunch of guys some weird rig to pull her out of the ground. I think Rick's ( cough,muscles) must have atrophied. Not impressed at all.

Then please produce the links to support your claim. Hearsay is just that. Have you been on a hunt with them? Remember it is a show, I guess you believe everything you see on TV. If that is case I have great ocean front property in WV to sell you.
I guess you would like the show to let people see the hours of not finding anything. That show would not be seen by anyone because no one would watch it. Spike TV is not an educational channel it is more about shock value. Do you believe wrestling on Spike is real?

Tims, if you like the show that is fine. Read the small print disclaimers they air before you make posts like this. The show itself says the digs are RECREATIONS! That means they are all FAKE! You can debate if he ever made the original finds or not, but the show you see on TV is showing fake digs.

Jason, that is my point. They are recreations no one said they were not. The implication is that they did not find or locate it in the first place. If you have read my post I have never said I liked the show. I have only asked those slamming the show for being totally fake to prove it. I have said it is a TV show and on spike so those looking for education are looking in the wrong place, but maybe reading comprehension is a weak spot on this forum by some.

Ok people I will say this one more time,,,,, the AMERICAN SAVAGE TV SHOW IS REANACTMENTS OF WHAT DIPSHIT,, I MEAN RICK DIPSHIT SAVAGE HAS CLAIMED HE HAS FOUND IN THE PAST!!!!!!! So yes the show is FAKE in a sense since it it reanactments,,, but the ole RICKSTER claims that this is how the actual events happened ( if you believe he has found half the crap he says he has found, or how he claims he found it then I have beautiful ocean front property to sell you in Tennessee)
