What a trip we had ! This place I have been hunting near my parents cabin in the Sierras keeps giving up the old silver ! I hunted twice while we were on vacation . The first was an evening hunt till it was dark , not much found , clad and a broken junk kids ring . The next morning my son , Carson and I got out early at 630 am and hit it hard . My son was the first to strike silver :icon_thumright: . He had a +77 at 2 inches and out popped a sweet 1928S Merc :headbang: . He was grinning ear to ear . Then I got a +24 at 3 inches , a 1944P silver war nickel . We were both on the board :hello2: . Then it happened , a crazy mixed up target at 7 inches . It was +28 , +45 , +68 , +72 , it was everywhere but kept repeating . I know from the past at this location to dig a target like this . I got down to the target and I saw silver in the pile of dirt . Not any silver but the oldest coin I had ever found at this place . It was a 1875 Seated dime ! My son and I were going crazy :blob8: . Then I stated to fill the hole in and as I did I had another high tone , Seated number two ! A 1891 Seated dime ! My first ever Seated spill ! So I checked again and on the side of the hole at 9 inches another high tone , +72 . The third and final coin of the spill was a 1908 Indian cent ! I think it will be a long time before I top this one ! The next coin went to my son , a 1949S wheat at 2 inches . After that we found some clad and were ready to head back to the cabin when I got a screaming +92 at 2 inches . One more silver coin for the hunt , a 1946S Washington quarter . What a hunt we had :headbang: . We are going to try and get back for one more hunt this year before it gets to cold , maybe more silver is waiting  .

Awesome, love them seated coins...:occasion14:

very nice assortment of old coins :icon_thumleft:

Sounds like a great time to share with your son. A time you both will remember for years. Congrats.

I just hope the cabin is still there this weekend and not burned to the ground by the Rim Fire . It's now about 6-8 miles away !

thinking about Yosemite and talking to a friend in Reno about the smoke . Things are bad enough where some of our South Jersey forest fighters are out in your area to help . Hope your cabin stays out of harms way and sorry for all that are affected by the fire . Hang in pl8man , prayer goes out to my friends out West

Awesome finds!!!!!

Ha!I live that close!!From what I can tell with dozer lines in,and chatter on the scanner, unless your cabin is in the park...its safe

The cabin is on HWY 108 . All the way to Pinecrest lake is being evacuated . I have never seen my Dad this worried about a fire getting to our cabin .
He said if it's still there by Monday we should be good ! I'm hoping for the best !

Wowie!! Man how. Would love to have a day like that!

So jealous of some of the quality of finds. The soil in our parts is so acidic that even modern copper is ruined at times. Great finds!!! Real nice coins.

I use my MXT PRO with a double D 6x10 coil and a Sun Ray DX-1 probe

Glen...its an advisory evac, and meant more for people with medical conditions to prepare.I just returned from Twain Harte and will tell you unless some thing very extreme happens the major threat is gone. The Dozer lines along that front are doubled and tripled up,and there is a Fire engine behind every tree.

Thank you so much for the info ! I will let my Parents know . The cabin is like a family member and my Mother was in tears the other night about it . This info I think will put her at easy my friend !

pl8man,
Thank you for sharing the wonderful finds you and your son had together. My best hopes go out to you and to many others in the path of this monster fire............................63bkpkr

Nice finds. Congrats.....

What a great hunt! The odds of finding two seated cons in the hole has to be pretty low. I know I would be dancing if I found something like that.

I hope your cabin survives the fire. Someone I work with grew up in California and his family took all of their vacations at Camp Mather, which was surrounded by fire yesterday. I hope this thing can be brought under control soon.

I used to be a County Forester in Mississippi and was responsible for fire suppression activities in my county. I am thankful we didn't have fires like the ones seen out west. What a challenge.

Once again, great silver finds from the 'Sierra' my friend! :occasion14:
Here's hoping your families cabin weathers the latest forest fire threat!

Dave

Great hunt that you had.

Thanks everyone for the nice words and thoughts !
