SILVER!!!!!! 1590's 4 reales, 1760 Half Real and other finds

MY FIRST BIG SILVER COIN!!!!!! :icon_sunny: :icon_sunny:

I couldnt believe it...

My field of these days, went back to the same ones that are not planted, and spent about 3 hours...

Got the usual coins and half way it comes the big silver!!!! a 4 reales, from Felipe IV around 1590's, minted in the Indias, they are called Macuquinas because they were hammered not very carefully...my first ever big silver, what a sight :o
Then later on the day, the second to last target comes the 1760 Half real, a little mistreated but pretty anyway
I was hunting and a big chopper from the base (not torrejon Hispan...haha) flew over me.
Here are the pics

Re: SILVER!!!!!! 1590's 4 reales, 1760 Half Real and other finds

Here they call Spanish cob ... (the denomination of Macuquina is totally Hispanic and is not used in Anglo-Saxon coin collecting) as bes ... not so easy to find these coins appear one of these every 200 of copper.
You witnessing the war in Libya in the front row ... they envy. :laughing7:

Re: SILVER!!!!!! 1590's 4 reales, 1760 Half Real and other finds

Thanks to all!!

Yes my first cob its really special. Thanks for the info Hispan

I dont know if to clean it totally or leave it like that... :icon_scratch:

The button its very nice, in the pics you cannot see it, but its gold plated, tried the lemon juice for 10 mins, but it did not clean it.
There were only 490 cavalry soldiers in the troop, all with sables...

I haven't found any British button yet, we will see.
Going to research this afternoon to a different town... :icon_pirat:

Thanks
Nutria

It looks great, don't clean it. It shows it character as a dug coin, instead of a clean ebay 'copy'. Keep it special, keep it real! :icon_thumright:

:notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:

fantastic finds again NU :headbang: the Cobs stunning, and the outher bits made you a fantastic hunt

You will hear plenty of advice about cleaning coins on here(usually all bad) it's totally up to what you decide, I go to many coin fairs in England, were the collectors buy there coins, none of the Ancient coins are left in a dug state, they are all cleaned in some way,to make them more presentable...the choice is purely yours my Friend :icon_thumleft:

:coffee2:

Like I said Mate it's up to you, but some times a lot of detail is hiding under the crud, after all it has been burried a few hundred years.
Trying to get out to a area that is not far from my home, last week in the same area there were some fantastic coins found :o including a Harold11 pax penny, William the Conquer and Edward the Conffesor, along with outher hammered.

Re: SILVER!!!!!! 1590's 4 reales, 1760 Half Real and other finds

What would the plate with the inscription "Canal De Isabela II" be for?
Getting silver is nice. Getting big silver is nicer. Getting big old silver is priceless.
Thanks for sharing!

Re: SILVER!!!!!! 1590's 4 reales, 1760 Half Real and other finds

That some great stuff! Congrats

Re: SILVER!!!!!! 1590's 4 reales, 1760 Half Real and other finds

I cleaner my coins they are for my personal collection and I do not ever sell  .... but some beginners buyers at auction prefer the coins dirty and without cleaner :dontknow: because they think that is a guarantee of authenticity, although I advise that its coin not clean much that is in good condition and has no silver black patina ..... your sword chape is much better than Spanish Cob. :hello:

Macuquinas or cob, either way it's big Spanish silver! WTG!
