I finally dug a few things worthy of posting. I've been lurking on this site for over a year and just now posting some recent finds.

I was hunting this early 1800's horse track site yesterday and within 15 minutes dug my second ever Large Cent. Then an hour later dug my first ever silver 3 cent coin. I'm afraid that I "cleaned" what was left of the date right off the copper. I could make out 182x before I tried to make it better.

The rest of the finds are from two other sites, one a mid 1700's Colonial site that was abandoned in the early 1800's and another a local 1795 house that that had some Union CW activity on the property. I was pretty excited to dig my first shoe buckle frame and I dug what looks to be a small portion of a knee buckle. Thanks for looking!

Congrats on your finds. Looks like a cw camp is close on the one site. I'd hunt it hard.

Nice groupa goodies! Well Dug :icon_thumleft:

Thanks for all of the views and comments. I plan on getting back out there this weekend so hopefully I'll have some more finds to post.

Great Finds... Congrats :icon_thumright:

That 3 cent "fishscale" is in way better shape than the one I found there. Nice!

The three cent coin has an unusual history. It was proposed in 1851 both as a result of the decrease in postage rates from five cents to three and to answer the need for a small-denomination, easy-to-handle coin.

Alot of very cool finds, love the 3 cent piece.................................HH

Welcome and nice finds!

You've found some great sites there. A silver 3-center is definitely on my wish list.

Fantastic! You know i love those buckles! Congrats on the trime! And the large cent! Great job representing North Carolina, and our club!

Thanks Brad! I wish these were current finds but this thread was revived from deep in the archives. Still fun to see some old finds though.

GREAT FINDS---WHAT KIND OF READING DID YOU GET ON THE SILVER 3 CENT & WHAT KIND OF DETECTOR ?

I was using my Teknetics T2 and if I recall it came up around 62. I had dug a lot of small flat buttons at this site and I figured it was another one. Glad it wasn't!
