Silver Dime Variety, (FIRST) Barber, Merc & Rosies

Headed back to the small park where me and LI TOM have been swinging and finding ourselves silver. This place really suprised the crap out of both me and Tom this morning when a barber dime came right out of the first signal heard and dug by me. I don't think neither of us expected to find one there. I was already waving it off as a merc. I think Tom's trained eyes called it better from 10 feet away before I could. My first barber and the feeling of accomplishment for me is as alive as when I found my first merc. Tom and I were talking about the very same subject of barbers and where they could be in this city just the night prior to this hunt.

I have to say I love my Explorer XS......it calls the silver dimes right each and every time when those little cross hairs want to get out of the screen. A while later I dug the merc, followed by a Rosie and then another Rosie. None of these coins were past 3 inches. All three except one Rosie were at about 2 1/2. I still think there is more in there. So that is my first barber, and by far, my best silver count day, 4 total, previous was 3. Photos attached.

Congrats on your first barber dime!! I can still go the the exact location where I found my first...well, I guess I can't because I just can't go on Camp LeJeune anymore, but if I could... I hope your next Barber is a Quarter!! Nice variety!!

What a day eh Rick! These finds were found in a very small section of this park,no more than 50' by 20'.We have have both pounded it many hours and both pulled a number of silver out.I was just shocked that Rick was able to pull 4 silver out areas that we have both passed our coils over many times. He has been kicking my butt since he got that explorer.Congratulations again buddy.

Tom is not kidding on this one........this is a small little patch that we've gridded in just about every direction possible. So far everything in there has been at 3 inches or less with the exception of a 4" deep quarter. How we miss these coins and find them another day is what we ask ourselves when we come across them. It has rained here alot the past few days, I'm sure this helped. Thanks for coming out again Tom, and you are a warrior man!.......Tom was just not going home until he could get his hands on some silver, and I now know you went home with a healthy dose. Congrats to you too Tom.

Rick,
Good move on the Explorer and congratulations on your first Barber! It always seems so hard until it happens. Then you look back and say 'why did I think it was going to be so difficult?'

My son still is a little skeptical about my ability to id silver on my Explorer. On his DFX some coins sound like silver to him. I tell him that the only trouble I have is distinguishing between silver and a quarter.

Ok that is it! I am buying a plane ticket Monday and coming to hunt with you!!!!!

That is such a cool coin, well all the silvers are. I thought I found silver the other day with my Beast but it turned out to be a token at 7-9 inches. Way to go buddy.

Re: Silver Dime Variety, (FIRST) Barber, Merc & Rosies

Hey Ricardo!!
Excellent finds!! Actually, it's rather easy to explain how those coins come
out of an area you have covered many times. Before you got the Explorer,
I'm guessing you were using a machine with a standard concentric coil. The signal
that a concentric coil puts into the ground is kind of like an upside down cone.
The signal starts out the same size as your coil, but narrows down to about the size
of a half dollar at around 6 or 7 inches. So, as your sweeping, if the target falls just
a bit off of the side of the "cone" you'll miss it. NOW... you are using a Minelab with
a DD coil. The signal sent out by a DD coil is similar to a fat book under your coil, so there
is no "cone". Anything under the width of your coil, up to a certain depth is going to be
detected. Dont ya love it!!!

Re: Silver Dime Variety, (FIRST) Barber, Merc & Rosies

Those three generation days are great! You don't get 'em often, but when they happen...yes!

Re: Silver Dime Variety, (FIRST) Barber, Merc & Rosies

Lately I am lucky if I can find a manhole cover with my Explorer. ;D

I just can't get over how good you are doing with that machine Ricardo!!

Re: Silver Dime Variety, (FIRST) Barber, Merc & Rosies

I wonder how long it took for the public at large (and the mint) to pull the Barbers out of circulation? I guess we'll never know for sure.

I'm sure that was a rush, when that one popped out of the ground!

Congratulations on your first Barber coin. and the three other silver dimes too!
