I bought these salt shakers at an estate sale for 10$ it is obvious they have some silver in them. There are no markings just numbers. Are these
Silver? The numbers are 6116-S

What characteristics of these items lead you to believe they have some silver in them? Do you believe them to be a silver alloy, or silver plated? Could they have no silver at all? Based solely on the images provided, I see no evidence either for or against silver, so to form an opinion, I need something besides images.

Time me for more coffee.

slight rainbow at the bottom like the one that forms on silver coins sometimes i srubbed it off with toothpaste but it is still black. There tops come off and there is a while silver like color at the bottom of it. Both pieces weigh 12.3 ounces

Similar toning occurs in both silver plating and pewter. The scrubbing you did with toothpaste could have been done with dish soap with the similar results. What tests have you performed? Are there markings of any kind, inside or out, that perhaps you did not notice earlier?

Right now I concur with Mick. At least until evidence is presented otherwise.

Time for more coffee.

They match a set I have that is pewter but I am missing the salt and pepper shakers. I just have the creamer and sugar bowl. Nice pieces.
