On Friday I hit the plantation house at lunch and recovered another 3-ringer, a small 1800's cuff button, and the no date Buff very close to the back door of the house.
Just goes to show you the old saying "no place is ever completely hunted out" holds true. I've been over that area numerous times. Using less discrim has been a great help.

On the way home Friday I hit a few old houses in the downtown area that I just gained permission to hunt. There I recovered a 1948 S quarter, a mystery button, and a few dog vaccine tags. I ran out of light, so I'll be going back there maybe this week.

Saturday I was granted permission to MD at this great old house that was built around 1850. It is over 7000 sq. feet, has 38 rooms, and sits on an acre in the old part of town. It also has CW history with Sherman's troop staying here. The monument sits out in the parking lot, and the old grave (2nd owner) is out in the woods.
The new owners are restoring it into a wedding hall, day spa, etc.
They gave me permission to detect outside, inside (walls/floors for hidden booty), and under the house too. This house is MASSIVE!!!
That's the good news. The bad news is the place may have been detected before over the years. :icon_scratch: The old coins just weren't there and plentiful as I would have thought. I did recover a 1911 wheat thought, and a few old relics.
The owners will be pulling up the old bricks in the carriage house eventually to reuse them at the front walkway so I'm hoping for some virgin dirt under there.
Today's planned hunt is a rainout unfortunately. :'(
Yes, my wife & family still recognize me and still allow me to sleep IN the house. :tongue3:
Hope you all had a great weekend. Here is a list of my finds.
-MM-

*1948 "S" quarter
*No date Buff
*1911 Wheat penny
*CW 3-ringer
*Mystery button with what looks like possibly "JTE" on the front. ??? :icon_scratch: Any ideas on this one?
*13mm Cuff button - back mark says "Plated" and has stars too. Mid 1800's is my guess.
*Tiny brass buckle
*Larger (1 1/2") buckle with "Hickoc Bronze" stamped into it. Age?
*Two vaccine tags, both from Winston Salem, NC.
*Old ornate key with a square opening in the base.
*Model A valve stem cap dated 1907 & 1916.
*Lipstick Case - "House of Westmore- Hollywood"
*Old door stop.
*Play money.
*Silver plated fork stamped "Holmes & Edwards" - circa approx.1920's-1950's

what a fantastic place to hunt. congrats on the nice finds and great pics

Doug,

You sure have a lot of great, old houses to detect around. I like to see pics of these houses. I don't see too many like that where I live.

Those house beams on the far left side of your second pic look like they're ready to buckle under. :o :icon_scratch: Is that just an optical illusion in your pic? :o

Congrats on your finds!! Hey, you got a piece of silver, along with a lot of relics!

Awesome pics! That button looks really neat. I have never seen one like it. Maybe someone will know what it is. You can always post it on the 'what is it' forum too.

No that is not an optical illusion. They ARE buckling. :o The owners are going to restore that carriage area too. It's a huge undertaking that they are doing with this house. Very cool inside.
It's been a while since I've found a silver quarter too, so that was a real treat. :icon_king:

Awesome site and the finds are also nice! Detect in all metal mode and dig those iffy signals. I got burned today, 3 fields, 2 hours and a broken pewter harness piece and a small iron buckle was it, LOL. As always, a good time was had. Look forward to the next hunt. HH, Mike

Great job Doug. I have found many of those model a tire valves and never knew what they were. Thanks for the schooling. Nice pictorial. You have enough by now to give a detecting slide show. Make sure you serve plenty of pretzels and beer. :D

Thanks Chris. Pretzels and beer sound pretty good on a Sunday afternoon. I'm still thawing out from yesterdays hunt. ;D
I've found a few of those Shrader Model A valve stem caps in the past. I used to think they were cosmetic tubes until a fellow TN member ID'd them for me. Have a great week. Keep K & K in line. ;D

You need to hit that place as often as you can. Remember a place is never hunted out. My money is on you to find more stuff. Great site.

Thanks Stan.
There is a LOT of bare dirt under this house too that I will eventually get to. One old coin would make my day. :icon_sunny:

Great Stuff as usual Doug....Instead of the popcorn I'll just pop-a-chilly ;D The house look's awesome, should keep you busy for a little while at least until they get it restored.wouldn't be the same if you didn't pop out a 3-ringer  The "key" sound's like it might be for hose bib or something to that effect.Congrat's on the silver and other relic's and of course the new spot

Lots of good finds there mm.
I like the 1948 quarter and the play money.
Looks like a very good place for some old silver.
The basement might have a few jars of old coins burred in it.
Good luck

Thanks RD.
After walking through that house yestersay I wanted to rip every board off the walls and floor to see what was hidden behind there. That may not be a good idea though since the owner is trying to restore it. ;D

Hey MM, nice silver quarter....like the bullet and old buckles too. Old houses are a blast to hunt!

Sweet digs MM - looks like you got a killer spot there! We didn't get out today either - it's been raining buckets since last night :P - we'll be out at least two times this week to get some more pics and possibly start cleaning out some of the roofing. Keep me posted on that old house - I'll do the same...

It was a cr-ppy weekend in our area, that's for sure. Tell Chris to make sure he wears that ring when he is out there cleaning up that place. ;D Good luck to you guys this week. Any ideas if the beans were cut yet?
