On Friday I hit the plantation house at lunch and recovered another 3-ringer, a small 1800's cuff button, and the no date Buff very close to the back door of the house.
Just goes to show you the old saying "no place is ever completely hunted out" holds true. I've been over that area numerous times. Using less discrim has been a great help.

On the way home Friday I hit a few old houses in the downtown area that I just gained permission to hunt. There I recovered a 1948 S quarter, a mystery button, and a few dog vaccine tags. I ran out of light, so I'll be going back there maybe this week.

Saturday I was granted permission to MD at this great old house that was built around 1850. It is over 7000 sq. feet, has 38 rooms, and sits on an acre in the old part of town. It also has CW history with Sherman's troop staying here. The monument sits out in the parking lot, and the old grave (2nd owner) is out in the woods.
The new owners are restoring it into a wedding hall, day spa, etc.
They gave me permission to detect outside, inside (walls/floors for hidden booty), and under the house too. This house is MASSIVE!!!
That's the good news. The bad news is the place may have been detected before over the years. :icon_scratch: The old coins just weren't there and plentiful as I would have thought. I did recover a 1911 wheat thought, and a few old relics.
The owners will be pulling up the old bricks in the carriage house eventually to reuse them at the front walkway so I'm hoping for some virgin dirt under there.
Today's planned hunt is a rainout unfortunately. :'(
Yes, my wife & family still recognize me and still allow me to sleep IN the house. :tongue3:
Hope you all had a great weekend. Here is a list of my finds.
-MM-

*1948 "S" quarter
*No date Buff
*1911 Wheat penny
*CW 3-ringer
*Mystery button with what looks like possibly "JTE" on the front. ??? :icon_scratch: Any ideas on this one?
*13mm Cuff button - back mark says "Plated" and has stars too. Mid 1800's is my guess.
*Tiny brass buckle
*Larger (1 1/2") buckle with "Hickoc Bronze" stamped into it. Age?
*Two vaccine tags, both from Winston Salem, NC.
*Old ornate key with a square opening in the base.
*Model A valve stem cap dated 1907 & 1916.
*Lipstick Case - "House of Westmore- Hollywood"
*Old door stop.
*Play money.
*Silver plated fork stamped "Holmes & Edwards" - circa approx.1920's-1950's

I'll be sure to let him know... :D

The beans still have not been cut - :BangHead: - I'll be heading out there in the morning for some recon work and hopefully I'll find them gone... ;D

I am well acquainted with the "Drive-By's" to see if fields are cleared yet. It sucks! :P

Nice hunt, MM--good to see a little silver, a little CW, and some other cool items. I popped popcorn as suggested, sat down, and ran out of Post before my popcorn was done!

Great post, Doug! Looks like you had some fun times! Nice finds!!

I can't wait to see what's under that dirt floor!

Hey Doug nice finds. that house looks to be hidding stuff inside. hope you have fun and find great stuff inside the house. See you later and maybe we can md again sometime. See ya around. Chris(Mave2535)

That looks like the kind of place where you could spend a lot of time. Don't give up on it, Doug, even though you think it's been hunted before. They obviously missed some good stuff and there's probably more. :)

Thanks for the site pictures...good stuff!

thanks for the pics of that great house. nice stuff found, gets the imagination going. hope you don;t lose too much sleep thinking about what's under the carriage house!

As usual, I enjoyed your post and congratulate you on some great history finds. I found a Model A tire valve the other day at an old home site but did not realize what it was until I saw your I.D. WTG and regards from cool and rainy Tennessee.WTG MM.

Thanks BB.
Next time I'll add a long video to complete the post. ;D
I'm still dying to get into those woods where the CW camp probably was, were the 20 bullets, belt keepers, etc. turned up. I went by there Friday and sure enough hunters out there. :'( Deer season ends in Jan, so I guess I'll be waiting until then.
Hope you had a great weekend.

Great finds, Doug. Love those old houses, seems they're all being turned into a Bed & Breakfast. That place will keep you busy for a while. Be careful in those woods...good idea to wait til hunting season is over.

 RR

Thanks RR.
I'm hoping to find enough relics at that house to make the owner a nice shadow box. He wants to have a small museum in the house too which would be great.

I'll be careful in the woods too. Hopefully no hunter finds my mug good looking enough to hang above his fireplace. :o ;D

Of course I'd love to see a video--Especially a CW site one.

I did have a great weekend with the folks. Spent some time doing some Research and Planning for a MDing Retreat with my Dad in VA for a few days after Christmas. Sounds like we'll rent a cabin near some good spots and do some hunting together. I know that no matter what is found, the best find will be the trip. :) (although knowing us, there will be some goodies. ;D )

So now, back to KY Digging--as soon as the weather starts cooperating!

Best Wishes,

:o What a beautiful place! AND YOU GET TO HUNT IT! :o :icon_king: Already some fantastic finds too! On that thing you have marked as a door stop....I found one of those and thought it was a miniature telephone. :P :D

Super dooper finds, MM. And I still have a bit of popcorn left, so I'm waiting on your second installment of your adventures here! ;D

Thanks Mona.
I really need to get a good mower over there as it has tall grass in some prime areas. It was cold and rainy too on Saturday, so hopefully my next hunt won't be as rushed.
Have a good one.

Funny you mentioned losing sleep. The night before I hunted this new spot I had visions of sugar plums old silver dancing in my head. I'm not giving up! ;D

Nana,
I wish you could hunt this property too. I know this would be right up your alley. I would love to find a nice old token like you find a lot. As far as that door stop, don't feel bad. I thought it was one of those Victrola from that old ad. :tongue3: The owner knew right off the bat what it was. I also found an old brass faucet with the porcelain knob in great shape. I told the owner to clean it up a bit and mount it on the wall upside down to hang coats or towels from. I like to recycle old junk into useful things. ;D
Have a great week.
