Hunt today in the salt water. Found about $10 in clad in various stages of decay as well as this sterling silver ring, perhaps the most corroded peice of silver I've ever found (there's actually razzoring on the back edge from salt water damage) Restored at home using aluminum foil, backing soda, and brillo. You can just make out the '925' on the interior.

Fresh from sand vs. Restored. I figure it was in the ocean for quite many years.

Next time, put it in aluminum foil, completely submerge it in a solution of baking soda and water in a microwaveble cup and pop it into the microwave for 30 seconds. Remove, clean, and repeat.
Nice save.

Won't you create a small fire if you microwave metal objects? Gary

Nice recovery on the silver ring, and clean up.

Gary I think the "completely submerged" part is the ticket. If exposed to air then the fireworks start.

I found just a big goober in foil with the silver heats it up nicely. It's probably something to do with the acidity of the spit and the reaction with the aluminum foil.

Then again from having cut foil off the steel cores and filling metal totes with the foil.
If it had rained over night I would come in the morning and it would of swelled up like a microwave popcorn and the steel bin hot be fry pan hot.
