[td]After having searched through $7,110 worth of dimes, I figured I'd get a Whitman Coin book (1946-1964 Dimes). I'm going to make it my goal to fill it by the end of the year! To the right is my "Most Wanted" List to help keep track of my progress. I want all of my finds to be from CRHing, so I won't be purchasing any of them. Here goes nothing! [/td]

Just a day of absolute craziness! I was at a bank today when a trusted teller asked if I also collect halves. I said I did. She replied, "I have a half if you want it. I'm pretty sure it's silver." Got out to the car expecting a 40%er, but it turned out to be the real deal. First 90% half of the year for me. Then, I get home and see this in one of my MWR's:

Wheat Cent Ender on an MWR Dimes Roll

You see things like this on eBay with CWR's...you know, "Wheat roll with a mercury dime on end!", that kinda stuff. This is the first time I've ever seen something like this in an MWR dime roll! Turns out there's a reason...it was one of those "beaten to be the size of a dime" pennies. Just when you thought it couldn't get any more bizarre, I pull an Australian war coin! Amazing detail on the reverse, and then there's the obverse...it looks like someone took a knife and intentionally scraped it. Maybe it was a coin counter victim and the previous owner just shoved it into a CWR. Anyway, pics below:

*the 'D' in 1942D is, believe it or not, the Denver mint.

I think that Australian coin in really cool. Better than finding a common date US silver dime. I like finding things like that. Unfortunate for the scraping on the obverse.

Doesn't take much to file down a copper cent to the size of a dime. They just made a 900% profit at your expense.

Thanks - It's been quite the journey so far. I know I've only got 3 FDRs left to find, but I could see that requiring the thread to double in size from where it's currently at. Hopefully, I just get a dream box or solid roll that finishes the hunt before I move. I know you're one of the heaviest dime hunters I've seen on here. What did your dime totals end up being before they shut you down?

Yeah, I thought it was a bittersweet find. My third foreign country in the silver department (Canada, Dominican Republic, and now Australia).

Well, we picked up where we left off last week. The skunk streak got up to 10 before Box 5 ended the madness. I think it's safe to say the silver vein of the past several weeks has given us all she's got. Now, if we could just find another one...

Those are first ballot CRHing Hall of Fame numbers right there. 1.61 FDRs per box won't be touched again. Too much new clad out there. In 2013 I was at 0.97/box and this year I'm at 0.68/box. This week's not helping the cause.

I'd be lying if I said it hasn't been a trying week - both on and off hobby. Let's just say, the taxpayer is getting his money's worth out of me this week. Anyway, got about 90 rolls through today's 150 and FINALLY found something:


Warped Silver Dime

I was like, man, even when I do find silver this week, they give me this! Alright, what kinda nineteen sixty dime we got here? WHOAAA!!! ANOTHER BARBER!!! It took me ~$174,105 to pull my first ever last month, and just ~$18,750 to pull my second. The first Barber was a 1914 slick and this one's all kinds of warped/bent. Guess those are the kinds people throw back, but I'll keep 'em! Both are pretty high mintage at 17.36M and 14.60M, respectively. Take a look:

It was a brutal week, plain and simple. Normally, finding a Barber dime and a steel cent in the same week would be a great week, but the fact that it came on 4 Roosies (one of which came in the form of a teller gift) is tough take. We logged the second lowest amount of Ag for a week in 2019, with the lowest being on $750 when I was still getting a system in place. Maybe the coin courier will find a better pallet next week.

True, 0.072339 troy oz of silver is 0.072339 troy oz of silver, but I wouldn't trade a Barber for a '64 Roosie. I don't mind the common FDRs being warped or bent, but c'mon, not my Barbers! They're just so tough to find out in the wild. I guess it's just the numismatist in me.

Sleepy: yes, barbers & mercs are always a better prize than a Rosie. But what I was trying to say is that a damaged bent barber is better than NOTHING, like maybe a Skunk.

Apparently, I was attempting to dump my 50th all-time Mercury Dime. Not sure if that deserves a or a ...Good thing my coin counter rejects silver! Lesson learned : don't try to buzz through 7 boxes when you've got family in town.

Show a 1923 Merc (NEW!) to Tuesday's (11/26) haul. That makes 25 of 77 in the set.
