[td]After having searched through $7,110 worth of dimes, I figured I'd get a Whitman Coin book (1946-1964 Dimes). I'm going to make it my goal to fill it by the end of the year! Well, we quietly put together a Top-5 entry for most FDRs found in a single week. Regardless of the year, November and December have been good months for FDRs. The projected number of FDRs needed to fill the next hole ticked up seven this week to 129 due to the fact that I haven't found an 'S' dime in the last 78 FDRs. For the time being, still sitting at three...

MERRY CHRISTMAS, indeed! Huge day in terms of FDRs found at 21...today alone is tied for my 6th best week all-time and I'm only through 40% of my expected weekly volume. My wife is sick today, so we very unfortunately had to miss the Christmas Eve service. I was streaming the service on my laptop next to me while I was going through boxes and I kid you not - I'm on Box 5, open up a roll, see silver and the choir belts out "HAL-LE-LU-JAH!" in the classic Handel style. I'm like...this HAS to be the '55D. Turns out it was just a '61D, but still, a funny moment. Excited to see how the rest of the week turns out. Merry Christmas to each one of you.

Another Top 5 All-Time entry...and this one makes the best of 2019! I'm noticing a trend here: 16-21 Dec (1st & 6th) and 23-28 Dec (2nd & 3rd). On a separate note, the projected number of FDRs needed to be found to fill the next hole ticked up 12 this week. My last 'S' FDR found was actually the last hole filled: the 1950S, which is now 113 FDRs ago. My 'S' find rate in my area of the country is 2.83% at the moment, which is below my national projection of 3.45% and the percentage of minted set of 4.38%. With every 'D' mint mark or no mint mark FDR found, my 'S' find rate continues to drop, thus pushing the projected number higher. It's fun for me to forecast, but I also remember that guys like Warren Buffett ignore forecasting completely. He just keeps investing...and that's what I'm going to do with my FDR collection, one box at a time.

I have two left to complete the Roosevelt 1946-1964 set from CRH (1949-S and 1955)
Also found 34 of the 81 mercury dimes.

Wow...those are really nice numbers! Wish I had've started CRHing sooner. I'm currently on pace to hit about 600 FDR's and 52 MERCs for $207K searched in dimes. Congrats on the Barbers and Seateds! That's one of my year end goals is to find a Barber. Good luck on the hunt to complete your FDR set. I imagine it will be an overly-satisfying feeling to fill that last hole. I'm down to 18, but of course 13 of those are in the Top 15. Tough sledding ahead I guess. Especially with the coins getting tougher and tougher to find nowadays. HH Sleepy.

Just to follow up on this convo from 2013, I hit ~$207K lifetime a couple weeks ago with the following stats:

pre-1965 Roosevelt: 690
Mercury: 53 (26 in the set)
Barber: 2
Seated: 0
Silver Canadian: 10

Doesn't quite seem to measure up to searching standards from a decade ago...turns out the mints releasing 2-3B new dimes per year into circulation DOES have an effect on find rate. Huh... It's just good that silver is down right now, else I might have more competition.

It was a good year for the comeback tour. On June 24th, we started back up with nine Most Wanted Dimes still on the loose. We were able to lock up six of those behind bars, or at least album plastic! I'd like to take a second to reflect on my Top 10 personal favorite finds from the past year:

10) 1957D Quarter - My wife brought me home several coins from the local Coinstar. One of 'em turned out to be silver!

9) 1880 Indian Head Cent - It was left behind in the coin counter reject tray...probably because it was so beat up even I needed about 10 seconds to make out what it was.

8) 1950D FDR (XF/AU) - Possibly the nicest FDR in my album at the moment.

7) 1967 10 Cents (CAN) - I really wanted a Mackerel Dime this year. Turns out I found a 50%er and later an 80%er. That first Mackerel dime made me really happy to check another item off the CRHing bucket list.

6) 1943 Australian 3 Pence (AUS) - Gotta love foreign silver! This was a KGVI coin, 92.5% silver. My 3rd foreign silver all-time.

5) 1949D FDR - Huge find for the Most Wanted hunt this year! Pulled it from a CWR, which always makes you feel good.

4) 1904 Barber Dime- Now my oldest dime ever CRH'd. Just wish it wasn't all bent up.

3) 1955 FDR - I already had one 1955 in my collection, but this one was a HUGE upgrade in the quality department. In fact, ended up being one of my highest grade coins of the year. Not bad for the lowest minted FDR in the set!

2) 1949S FDR - Arguably the toughest FDR in the set to find. If you don't get excited about pulling this coin, you don't get excited.

1) 1914 Barber Dime - My first ever barber dime! Speaking of bucket list items, this was #1 on the list. I'm so glad I was finally able to pull one after doing so much volume.

Hey Sleepy,

Thanks for posting your summary stats. I noticed that you had very few lifetime CAN silver dimes and then saw more posted for 2019. Is there a typo for the lifetime 80% CAN (it should be higher, eh?).
