I found this small oval shaped gold plated brass item from a Vicksburg, MS campaign site. It features stars on the front of the piece. It's obviously been broken which is probably why it was discarded. I feel like it's military. Everything I've found from this site is Union so far. Can anyone help me guess this identity? Thanks for any assistance.

Your goldplated stamped-brass find's shape, being an oval which (before getting broken in half) measured about 2/3rd-inch by 1-inch, and having the remnant of a soldered-on loop at its center, suggests it is an early-to-mid-1800s cufflink.
