Small brass item with "BABY" stamped into it

Hello there. I have a mystery item and wanted to see if anyone had ever seen it before or knew what its purpose was. Its a small brass tag or something with the word BABY stamped into it. There was a small brittle hook or eyelet on the back but it disintegrated. This item was found on a late 1800's home site. House is long gone but there are plenty of items left behind. Thanks in advance.

Yes, that's true. I didn't know it had a brooch type hook on the back. Since that is the case, yes, it would be a brooch pin for a baby.
