Now I know that pictures tell so much of the story, but I simply cannot get a picture at this time, but I have a find that has puzzled me for years. A friend of mine, who I have since lost track of, but who used to be a fellow metal detector friend, found something in his own yard that I nor he could ever get identified. He owned a house back in the 80s which was well over a 100 years old back then. While metal detecting in his own yard he found and dug up a small metal (possibly pewter) bust of Abraham Lincoln. It was approximately 5 inches tall and was hollow with a hole at the bottom. We tried to send drawings and pictures to metal decting magazines back in the 80s (that's all we had back then) in hopes of getting someone who could identify it to respond to our requests, to no avail. He lived in Sonora, KY and he also found lots of old silver eating utensils, tools, toys, etc. in the same yard. I always thought it might be a handle to an old walking cane, but could never validate that idea. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. And Ken Toth if you are out there and reading this posting, I would really love to reconnect with you! David B

Loraine Bank of Ohio made busts of Lincoln as commorative gifts. I am sure over the years other busts have been offerred. Lincoln was quite respected once.

What kind of timeframe are we talking about though. This find was found several inches deep, and at a very old residence. It also did not have a base, nor appeared to have the type of bottom that would lend itself easily to one.

Timeframe for a bust of Pres. Lincoln? 1865 to present.

Depth has little to do with it - I pulled a 1996 dime from 10" down. Silt, plows, bulldozers, etc., etc.

The Lincoln Memorial was dedicated in 1922 and there was a LOT of Lincoln memorabilia made at that time.

There was a spot in Stafford,Virginia where Lincoln gave a review to over 60,000+ soldiers he also was in company with a Midget on his trip, Abraham Lincoln had a secret midget named Filibonius Jones. I was able too hunt the exact spot where Lincoln gave that review and right in that spot I found a brass comb with the word "Midget" on it that was bent and it was about the size of comb a midget would use . Story has it the midget use to put on shows for the soldiers after the review. That is the closest to anything I have dug that close to Lincoln.
