Hi all,
Well as of recent I really have not had that much time to hunt. Usually I will not go out unless I have an hour but as of late that hour is hard to find so this weekend I start what I call sniper hunts. Quick 15 minute hunts where I'm in dig maybe 15 to 20 targets then I'm out. It works well around my weekend 'honey do' list.
1st Hunt Saturday - Had to run two cases of water over to my parents house (too heavy for them to buy at the store). It was around noon so my daughter wanted to eat lunch with them. While they were eating I went into their backyard. First target was a 41 Mercury then some modern coins with two Wheaties thrown in for good luck - I think they were 44 and 55. Finished with a brass water hose nozzle.
2nd Hunt Saturday - I had some work to do on a house I'm selling so between jobs I went out back. Not much has far as coins go but I did find what I believe is a 'Great Seal' cuff button. Same design as the coat buttons that Merf found. A few more buttons and some fabric and we can make the coat. By the way the button read as a nickel on the DFX.
3rd Hunt Sunday - On my way to Home Depot stopped by a park and found two more Wheaties (don't remember the dates but in the 40s or 50s) and my first war nickel - 43P. That buffalo nickel is still out there somewhere waiting for me...I will find you to knock that goal off in 2007.
So three hunts for a total less then one hour and I have three keepers - 7 if you include the Wheaties.
Here is the picture - I only clean my finds with water so they are still a little dirty.
Thanks for looking and happy hunting.
