Snoose(?) Jar

While digging Christmas decorations out of the closet I came across this old jar that I picked up years ago at a yard sale here in south Georgia. I have never heard of a "snoose" jar but I think it may be a "snuff" jar.
However, it was what I found inside the jar that is interesting. Hopefully Y'all can shed some light on some of these pieces. The large piece looks like petrified wood but, it isn't mentioned in the note so I am not sure if it was found along with the other objects.

Can't help with the contents, other than the cartridge, but I was looking for "snoose" jars/jugs and found "Snus".

Thanks for that link. After reading about the labels I gave the jar a closer look and found an incised mark on the side of the jar at the bottom. I will post a picture later but I think it reads "Whymans Snuff".
In one of the pictures there are three kernels of corn and a lot of triangle shaped objects I think are seeds. They were threaded onto the black string. I wonder what type seed they are?

Well, after googling "Whyman's Snuff" and putting my glasses on I discovered that this is a "Weyman's Snuff" jar from around 1900.

Interesting artifacts, thanks for the look. Is a snoose / snus jar the same thing as a spitoon like you see in the old westerns?

That's some cool stuff. I wonder if those are seeds or rhizomes, maybe? When they are dried up, they can kinda resemble that. I agree, plant one! some seeds remain viable for a really long time.

The "Snoose" jar was what a merchant kept "Snoose/ Snus/ Snuff" in. He would sell it to customers insmall amounts. Snoose/Snus has it's origins in the Scandanavian countries. It is a tobacco product.

Hey thanks for posting that I have one of those jugs, exactly the same sitting on my shelf that I found about 20 years ago.
