Pretty happy with it. Never found an old copper so for it to be a 1797 is even better!

Wow! That's a bucket lister! Congratulations!

That's a beautiful copper. That's hilarious it was in your backyard, which probably makes it extra special.

That one is simply awesome.

You just broke into the 1700's club.
That is one sweet coin.
Congratulations

The funnest part about finding this is that I've searched my yard for over a year, except where I have an old 14' boat. The boat came without a trailer so it has been in the same spot for five years. Anything within a couple feet give off false readings and I just haven't moved it. I also have been tossing all my weird finds on top of the boat. Just trash mostly but I find it interesting. It just so happened that this day I was showing my brother the latest finds so while he was looking I casually started swinging and heard the faint hit near the boat and started digging. It was more than 12" down and the soil was kinda sandy. After a while I zeroed in on the target and there it was just waiting to come out after more than 200 years! I guess I should move the boat now!

wow that's awesome. congrats!

Needless to say you have an envious backyard. What a super find!

Jim that's a very nice early copper. I live in mid coast Maine and I'm a fanatic about our local history. If you really put the time and effort in you will find incredible history here. The colonial period is my favorite and the earlier the better. Wait until you pull your first 1600s coin. They're here my friend. Excited to see your future finds Jim

I can't wait to see a 1600's coin! That would be something. My next job is to study the area and find some other sites beyond the beaches.

Great find. More good news is that you did not have to get permission to search your yard. Keep searching.

If it was my backyard, I'd be renting a big shaker screen and a small backhoe.

She sure is sweet.

I live on 3.5 acres in East Texas
So far found part of a beer can and a 5 inches long 1/2 inches diameter metal rod and this.
